Fuel Economy

I was looking at picking up an escape to replace my Explorer cause the 4.0L just sucks gas to bad for the size of the truck. I get better fuel econonmy out of my full size GMC Sierra. What kind of fuel economy should I be looking at if I do end up going with an Escape?

Its gonna depend a lot on whether you get the I4 or the V6, FWD or 4WD, where you live (hilly or flat) and your driving style. Either motor will do better than the 4.0 in the Explorer.

I would like to get the 3.0 and 4WD. Is that a relatively good combo? Also is the 2000 version a bad one?

I thought the earliest Escapes were 2001 models. Anyway, I have a 2002 model and it has been quite reliable. You should be able to expect 22-25 on the highway and in the teens in suburban driving. Again, driving style will affect mileage.

The mpg computer readout in the Hybrid model definitely proves that!

Most of the quirks were worked out of the escape by the 2004 model year.

With my 4.0 Explorer Sport Track I get 16/20
With my 2001 Tribute I got 20/23 (4WD V6)
With my 2003 Tribute I got 19/22 (4WD V6)

NOBODY gets a whole lot better than that with a V6 and 4WD, no matter what they say
