I dont know guys. It seems far fetched to me that ford will re-engineer the suspension. That would not be cheap. Consider that this truck would have pretty low sales volume, I'm not sure it makes sense, at least at the price point that is being discussed (40k)
The ranch king is near that price and they simply added options to a basic f150 chassis. I don't think they can give us a re-engineered suspension for that. Ford would have to recover the cost of the engineering and the cost of the parts. Also consider that fox shocks are not cheap at all.
40k would give us what the powerwagon or rubicon is IMO. A truck with some heavier duty parts and useful add-ons.
If ford does this it will be unlike anything in the market before. I am almost thinking comparable to the ford GT.
the work has been done, the truck is 99% finished. we have no idea of the specs. just that they have built a long travel desert racer type truck for the road and off.
with his background in offroad racing i believe the ford and svt will put a great truck foward. a truck done right the first time.
as for price the king ranch should be more expensive. its the show truck of the f150. style glitz luxury, what you get when you through in leather and heavy sound dampening matieral to make it ride like a lexus. the raptor is your basic f150 4x4 with added suspension thats it. fox is expensive because of the name. the actual cost of product(cost for fox) is not that much more than other manufacturers.
ford builds a in house gt500 for 44k. 5.4 blown new tranny and suspension.
roush builds thier level three for 50k. basic 4.6 blown, basic 5 sp and suspension. why is roush so much more expensive for less stuff? its built aftermarket.
bottom line ford or any other major car manfacturer will be able to build this style truck for less than any aftermarket company can! 5 10 even 20k less.
I think I like the thunder name ok. How about All Terrain such as Thunder All Terrain, or Ford F150 All Terrain, or my personal favorite Ford F150 High Boy. I just had to throw that one in there again LOL.

Maybe I am thinking of something more than what ford has planned. But what I am thinking of as a long travel race truck will not be had for 40K. I am thinking of a long travel setup front and rear. That requires re-engineering the entire suspension system. Perhaps this is more of a heavy modification of the existing system? Perhaps they are simply adding some bells and whistles to the existing system. IDK
Understanding that we pay a premium for aftermarket parts, you are still looking at an increase in the cost. There is more here than the cost ford will be paying for materials. They have to add the time to completely reengineer and retest the suspension. Again not a cheap thing. Low volume's don't help take the cost down.
I expect this to be roughly XLT level trim with the off-road changes. Its not directly comparable to the Ranch king in that the ranch king has features added to it, leather, sound damping, chrome. Still the basic F150 chassis though. If this has a new suspension system then it will have a unique chassis. Flared fenders would mean new body work, again not cheap to make the new body panels, we will be charged a premium for this. Volume helps keep the costs down, this project may not have that advantage.
If we truly are getting a race ready truck, then I don't think ford will price it near the ranch king or any other existing model. Not simply because of the added costs of parts, labor, and manufacturing. But because a truck like this has never been in the market before, and they will be able to charge quite a premium for that. If it is a race truck made in limited numbers I don't think they will have a problem selling at 50 or 60k.
Also, that is simply fords end, we also have to deal with the dealers. remember how much over MSRP the Gt500, GT, and ever PT cruisers were selling for at introduction?

Just my thoughts, feel free to criticize!!!
no criticism here. its great to get thoughts and ideas out there. this is not a race truck though. its a street truck that will be more suitible to go fast off road. there is a major difference in these two items. and your right a pure race truck would be a lot more expensive.
one other thing, ford just did major r and d for this new 09 f150. a lot of the testing engineering and design cost for the new raptor suspension was probably wrapped in the total developement of this new f150. when you sell close to 1 million trucks a year the r and d per truck goes way down. just thinking out loud.
flared fenders, wheels tires, long travel suspension in a base xlt f150. think ranger fx4 with dixon brothers suspension...
Does anybody remember the super duy version of this a few years ago. For the life of me I can't remember. It had modified suspension, gnarly front bumber with winch, and some other offroad equipment. I was being built by Ford. There were all kinds of pic and magazine articles about it. Guess what? It never made it to the retail market. It just died.
WHAT THE HECK WAS THE NAME OF THAT THING? I want to say rubicon or renegade but that's not it.

I can't remeber either but it was awesome, it had the V-10, and it looked like it would kill the Power Wagon in all areas from off road duty to on road pulling, it would have been an amazing truck.
What do you think your my dad or something? I dont need & didnt ask for your commentary. You can keep your comments to yourself & just stick to the subject the thread is about. How do you know I didnt read it all & just missed that fact. This aint school so I dont study every single post like I'm gonna take a test. I'm sure we've all misunderstood something a time or 2. OUT.
I'm very sorry, i didnt mean it like that. I only read the first page of this thread and responded to what someone said before i read the other pages. So i went back to what i wrote and edited it. It was supposed to say, I should of read all the pages before posting.
