Maybe the concept vehicle will but I really don't think they will sell many at around $60K. The components will still cost ford money, which will be passed on to the buyer. Also, these parts will need to have the reliablity of OEM parts, not aftermarket race parts.
I expect something more along the lines of an offroad lightning. Modified yes, but not a race ready truck on the showroom floor.
I agree that it will be aimed at going fast offroad rather than crawling like the rubicon and powerwagon are aimed at.
How much more of a vehicle could you really need from the factory besides a powerwagon, or ranger fx4 or rubicon? If it cost as much as you say who in the world would pay that amount & then take it on the trail. Even the powerwagon is a stretch to pay for & then wheel. For off road farm work & logging with fireroads & such I could surely love that truck. Theres only one other vehicle made in this country that comes stock with front & rear lockers. Thats a rubicon. Yes there may be a foreign vehicle, but I dont know about those. I still think the name Raptor is stupid. Sounds like they were trying to come up with a cool sounding name but they failed. I vote for High boy or King Off Road Or "High Boy" Anything but RAPTURD.
King Off Road

There's another thread on this site about the "Raptor"...
The report claims that Ford is working on a derivative of the all-new F-150 pick-up internally known as "Raptor". The pumped-up version of the popular truck is said to feature a long-travel suspension (developed with Fox Racing), 35-inch tires, and – wait for it – a possibly turbocharged version of the upcoming Boss V8. Essentially a Baja 1000 or Dakar racing truck available to the public, the Raptor would be capable of covering rough terrain at high speeds, and also feature distinctive bodywork wider and lower than a conventional F-150. Word of the Boss V8 finding its way into an F-150 has also led to speculation that Ford is preparing a new Lightning, but the Raptor seems much, much cooler. If given the green light, the Raptor could be a year-and-a-half to two years away.
Little off subject again but, the ZR2 as a great offroader. Theres nothing speical at all with it, just big tires. I think they were mainly made for those city kids that need a little pickup with big wheels to make them feel like they can go anywhere. My cousin's 97 stock chebby could make it further than my friends ZR2 in are creeks. If they added a V-8 and a better supension system it would better but not by much. The only thing they were really good at from the factory was muddin, you could fit bigger tires underneath it without having to lift it thats it. Well my friends ZR2 tires rub when he turns and if you hit a good bump i bet you would make those tires rub in the wheel wells.
Sorry about that i just cant stand any of those ZR2s .

ford is going after the offroad race truck market. i dont believe any company has built a truck like this before. however many companies can take a stock truck and turn it into a truck that could go fast off road. to do this they reengineer the complete suspension add go fast goodies, protect the underbelly, and add wheels and tires. to get a good set up this will cost 20k in parts and labor from the aftermarket, regardles of who you go to.
early speculation is that an extended cab raptor will cost between 35 and 40k and be available with job 1 model year 2010(or oct 09). from what i have heard the truck is 99.9% done and there is a current $50k prize for the first photo!
the fx4 ext cab starts out at 33k. add suspension, wheels and tires, a different look, how much can that cost? i am guession 3-5k more than the fx4 for a no option truck. i could be wrong?
What do you think your my dad or something? I dont need & didnt ask for your commentary. You can keep your comments to yourself & just stick to the subject the thread is about. How do you know I didnt read it all & just missed that fact. This aint school so I dont study every single post like I'm gonna take a test. I'm sure we've all misunderstood something a time or 2. OUT.
