I stand corrected.....Hummers are great off road....if we include suv's i'll put them at the top for stock vehicles off road....right up there with jeeps....however if we go with just trucks....i still maintain a zr2 would have made it farther off road than a 7000 pound powerwagon.....and probably farther than a titan too.....

Not sure about hummers but off road ability is a discussion I don't think we want to get into. We'd have to mention landcruisers, land rover defenders, broncos jeeps....haha

lets not get into it. Lets just wait for the raptor

man...I am glad SOMEONE mentioned Bronco's and LR Defenders.

I gotta give a shout to the Mitsu Montero as well...not the Sport! I had a 1998 Montero with every dang option including the air locker in the rear. That was a nice little SUV that could get pretty dang rough.

I bet the Raptor will be a bit more than just eye-candy, which is what about half or MORE of those oversized Tonka trucks running around on the road are.

A shame....

Made it further how? My brother has had a Zr2 and now a Power Wagon. There is no comparison. Zr2 may fit into tighter spots, BUT E-lockers front and rear, disconnecting sway bar and 12k winch on a factory 3/4 ton chassis with 4.10 gears, 2" lift and factory 33's? Not to mention the Hemi does have 345hp....

In comparison the Zr2 had 31's no locker (G80, isn't a real true lock) no real suspension improvements...

IMHO nothing that you can buy brand new in the last 30 years has the capability of the Power Wagon. The Ford Big Hoss (F-250, V10, lockers, Winch, etc..)Package that never came out would have been a great competitor but I fear its fate of the chopping block will soon be shared with the raptor...

I disagree. The wrangler rubicon and land rover defender are in a different league than even the power wagon. Plus the size of the power wagon become a disadvantage when doing anything other than mudbogging.

I agree with your last point though. If ford continues to operate at a loss, I doubt they will release the raptor.

I guess it depends on your definition of most capable. Like I said earlier the only advantage the Zr2 or Rubicon/LR have is there smaller size. Traction there is no difference (all 4 wheels will be turning), clearance the PW wins size can be a negative but if you watch the outdoor channel or drive the Moab slick rocks it can be advantage as well. That long wheel base is horrible in tight woods, but great on open rock. I honestly don't know if the Rubicon or LR has a disconnecting sway bar for articulation? But I do know neither come with a winch.

When I think capability I think of it CAN DO the most. Well, my bro's PW can wheel to his favorite spot, winch his way up if he can't get there then unload his ATV, Camper, boat, etc... Neither the Rubicon or LR or any hummer can do that straight from the factory.

Now wheeling through a jungle, yea you're right the PW is out of its league it's just too big. But jungles seem to be hard to find here in Nebraska

I better shut up, I am going to end up talking myself into a dodge

The 'Rubicon sits on 32's from the factory, has front and rear e-locking diffs, 4.10's, 4:1 Tcase (does the powerwagon have that?) , and has the swaybar disconnect for the front. Not to mention solid axles front and rear. The only thing I don't like is they axed the 4.0 inline 6 in favor of the 3.8L V6. A diesel or V8 would be nice. As far as winches you can get one as an option.

I love Ford Trucks but Jeep has a really nice offroader out of the box for around 30,000 and less if you look around.

Gm has a new hummer h3 pickup. That should be pretty nice. I vote power wagon for trucks. I would love one. Cant afford it though. Just so you know I was reading in 4wheeler a while back & they claim that 35's will fit with minor rubbing at full droop. That reminds me of something, um, um, High boy maybe. I think if ford made the wheel openings bigger & installed a 2" lift with 4.10 gears & 33's it would have a capable off roader at a limited expense as far as packages go. One thing for sure, I wouldnt call it the raptor. What a stupid name. Call it the high boy, or BAT Bad As& Truck, or something

I was somewhat upset that it never went past concept stage...heck it even has the 3 bar grille. lol

IF they wanted to they could use a modified LR Defender 90 chassis with no issues. That would give it one heckuva good pedegree to start with.

Power Wagons are sweet, I hope they keep making them into the new body style, with the more powerful motor. However the Ranger FX4 II is probably the most capable pickup truck there is right now, at least thats what Petersens Off Road said they put it in the top ten 4x4's of all time. Maybe 15 years from now I could afford a Power Wagon or a Rubicon, when they are selling them for what I think they are really worth.

I remember reading that list several months back. But I remember the powerwagon is in there too!!

In my opinion its a bit large for a dedicated off road rig..

Guess im butting in but you guys are forgeting a very capable suv. The Toyota Landcruiser FZJ-80 was a very capable suv. Front and rear lockers, full floating rear. Im not one for imports but I'd love to have one but those buggers are still selling used for 10k

i believe everyone is getting off topic here. from what i have been told i am under the impression that the raptor will have the off road capabilities of the 150 + a rear locker, and the drive train to go fast in the dirt in an oem package.

the power wagon does not come close, neither does gm. toyota has the package name(trd) but that still does not come close to what ford is currently engineering.

a stock fx4 with 20k in donahoe racing componentry(or other offroad racing man.) would be close to what the raptor will be.
