Intermittent Coil Problems

Truck is a 2000, F150 super cab long box, 4.6l with 160000km (100,000 miles)I first experienced the miss when on my way to go moose hunting, loaded pulling a trailer over hilly highway. It would start to miss climbing the hills and the Check Engine light would flash. When I got home, by the time I got to a Ford mechanic, the codes had cleared. He changed the plugs (which I had already done within the last few months) and discovered that 4 of the coils were cracked. He told me to return when I experienced the miss again. I did, and he changed one coil. The problem went away until about 2 weeks later, when I was on my way to deer camp. I stopped by his shop, but he wasn't in yet. He had told me that if I could get it scanned closer to home, to see which coil was missing, he could change it. I did, but their scanner just said "coil misfire", maybe their technoloby wasn't up to the task. Now it hasn't done it since, but I am sure the next time I haul a heavy load it will. The price on Ford coils is $120Cdn, but aftermarket are from about $85 up. Are replacement coils as subject to cracking as the originals? Is there any good reason to buy the more expensive coils, especially since I will replace three?

Got to www.summitracing.com and order a set of Accel coils. They are anly about $29 US each. If they are cracked, then they are going to continue to cause problems. Especially under a heavy load or high humidity.

$100 dollar bill ebay gets all 8 delivered to the door. They don't say motorcraft on them and they are not made in the USA. But neither are the high dollar ones.

Visteon actually makes them for Ford after we mold the plastic parts in them.

When the msrp on a cop is $93.00 versus $12.00 I think I will try the $12.00 dollar one first.

howdy y'all
a little help here would be much appreciated thanks
1998 ford 4X4 4.6 L new reman long block from ford, new plugs, wires, pcv & usual when doing engine swap. Runs great all day till you find gentle grade in high gear then at about1600 rpm an intermittent stutter or misfire occurs. If no movement of throttle hesitation stays, with more throttle misfire goes away. No cel or any other indications of anything wrong. coils are from original motor with 124000miles on them any help here would be wonderful! What is a computer reflash? Thanks again
btw it's not unAmerican to drive foreign gas miser cars. I have 83 pulsar that gets 37 mpg on freeway granted it's not as quick as my vette but it's great for errands and stuff
take care and don't be a pedal masher....
