I have an 89 F250 long bed ex cab w/ a 460 and taking off the muffler alone is not that loud I did it and then just decided to gut my cat and now its really loud but I should put a muffler back on it thinking like a cheap cherry bomb or something just to change the sound a bit

You can get louder cats. That factory unit is so large that it absorbs most of the sound.

Yeah man it would get nuts. Like the otha guys said, you gotta make sure if you still got your big fat ole factory cat on there, you should consider tossing that for a nice high flow one. Then you could expect to see a differnece. I was blown away with the differnce I had in noise with my first exhaust system I had. I hade a original 40 series on her, and still had the big old cat on there, then we I replaced that with a high flow one, it got 3 times as loud, it was incredible.
