stainless valves

I am trying put stainless valves in my 73' 460 but they are all longer than stock. The stock exhaust valves are 4.983 and the stainless ones are are about 5.074-(they vary depending on the company but all longer than stock 73, but the right length for 71 and earlier) How do I make these work. I gain about .090 in valve spring installed height, plus I need about a .066 shorter pushrod for the right lifter preload. Is there a easy cheap way to fix this? Adjustable valve train and a shim? How do you make the rocker adjustable?

I believe both Crane and CompCams sell kits to convert your rocker arms to adjustable. If you do convert them, get a push rod length checker to make certain you're installing the correct length push rods.

Why are you going to SS valves? Is this intended to be a high performance engine? If not, why not save the $240+ cost of decent SS valves and eliminate changing out your existing valve train?

To get the right installed spring height (closed pound rate), you can do one of few things, change retainers and/or keepers, find some spring cups that fit your heads, got to a taller installed height spring or add shims betweem the spring and the head (the cheapest).
