Two or three months ago, my f150 had two misfires on cylinder 3 & 6. So I went and got the truck a tune up and replaced two ignition coils, Check Engine light problem solved.

Now the Check Engine light is back on, went to advance auto parts and confirmed my suspicion of having a misfire on cylinder 5.

First is it safe to drive the truck without causing damage to engine.
Is it difficult to replace ignition coils and boots or cables? I have no automobile familiarity or knowledge. Thanks for any reply.

 

Well I would get it fixed asap and no it is not difficult to replace #5 coil pack! It is the first one on the driver's side if your standing in front of the truck it is near your power steering resivor kind of under it! The coil pack has a 7mm bolt holding it in place and one wire conection! All you have to do is unplug the wire and take out the bolt and twist and pull at the same time and it should come right out! Then just install the new one bolt it in and replace the wire! If you dive your truck for two long you might foul out the plug so I wouldn't wait!

 

Oh I forgot if you want to save some $$$ don't get the ford coil packs they are $95 each! You can get some performance ones from Summit racing or Jegs for about $30 each so you can get 3 for the price of one!!!

I was just thinking of this so at that price it would probably be better to replace the ones that haven’t been replaced yet since they probably will follow soon. Would it be ok to mix up the coils?

Figured that the performance ones would put out more voltage that the stock ones.

 

they do put out more voltage then the factory ones I don't think it will hurt anything having them mixed! Just the ones with the performance coils will burn the gas a little more complete! It is just to bad you had to pay for the factory ones already you could have replaced all 8 for the price you paid already!
