Question Is dealer BS'ing me ??...Help Please

Here goes......2004 F250 KR 64,500mi. vin 1FTNW21PX4ED53091

At 61,500, i had my EGR cooler blow ,dumped all coolant into eng..Luckily it happened in driveway and got it shut down asap...Dealer replaced ,EGR cooler,Egr valve, oil cooler, put in new oil and coolant...
Got truck back and drove,,noticed that my gas milage went down almost a full mile per gallon(per the trucks computer) since the repair, and has not gone back up.
Took truck to dealer for a front end problem yesterday,,got it back today ,broken sway bar links,,no biggie..Ask service advisor about the loss of gas mileage after repair,,,he went to talk to a tech....came back and told me that they reflashed to the newest flash and that loss of fuel mileage is one of the drawbacks,,,but a reflash was not listed on the reciept when i got the truck back,,,,and the injectors still cycle when truck is shut down...........Is this BS, or does it sound legit ?? Also on the serv order from EGR cooler incident,it states " engine hydrolocked, removed glow plugs and coolant from cylinders",,but nowhere is there listed an engine flush. I asked the service advisor about this also,,and his reply to this was " the tech said that it is not necessary on diesels" ..Is this also BS ??
Is this all BS ?? Would my engine getting filled with coolant cause some damage internal that could be resulting in my lower fuel mileage,,should they have flushed the engine ?? If they reflashed, wouldn't they have listed it on repair order as this repair was warrantied by ford and to keep the data on the truck up to date ?

Please diesel guru's ,help me answer these questions,so i know if i'm getting screwed and if i should follow up and get this engine checked out more thoroughly.
If any of you techs would rather talk to me than post an opinion, please call me at 832-660-5163

Erik

The new re-reflash generally = lower MPGs due to updated EPA requirements. SOmeone w/better knowledge will prolly comment on the other ?s...

The newest flash that I now of the injuctors don't cycle when shut down. I got my truck reflashed when it went in for a EGR cooler change and the reflash was not listed on the invoice.

From what I have read here on this forum there have been many trucks that have been reflashed and the gas mileage has gone down. Also if the coolant in your truck was not contaminated why would they flush it. I too have had work done on my truck and they did a ep sensor recall on it and I did not know it until I ran an oasis report and there it was. Sounds to me like they are being straight with you.

Are you thinking there's still coolant in your oil? If so, get an oil analysis pronto. Antifreeze in oil will damage the engine quickly.

The coolant leaked from the EGR cooler into the intake manifold and hydro locked the engine. Unlikely any coolant made it down the cylinder wall and mixed into the oil.

If you had the buzz flash before you took the truck and the buzz is still there then they didn't reflash your truck with the correct/current flash. If the tech thinks that he did he is sadly mistaken OR the dealership is way way behind current information OR they fed you a line of BS just to get you out. FWIW--if you've already changed your oil and it LOOKS ok it probably IS ok. Since you've already changed it all you could do is a two sample analysis (before and after) and compare. I wouldn't stress it OR waste the 40+ for the analysis. If you're that worried then change your oil again and go. The motor is tougher than that anyway.

The "buzz" is how the sound of the injectors was described when the spool valves were being cycled after the motor was shut off. It was an older PCM flash that was used in an attempt to help prevent injector failure due to something called stiction where the spool valve in the injector would stick and not allow high pressure oil into the injector to fire it. Ford came out with a newer flash that eliminated the buzz, mostly due to customer complaints, and uses a different method called inductive heating. Navistar still uses the buzz flash in their trucks.
