Oil Filter

Does anybody have a remote oil filter on their truck?

I had one on my Sonoma. Think it was factory. I never had a problem with it.
If you put one on you don't want to take it up to high, it will make the pump work more to push the oil up to it. But their is nothing wrong with them.

Yes, I do. I installed it on the outside of the frame rail behind the tire, drivers side.

There are several members here that have them. Two more that I can think of off the top of my head are Mr. M and Eco. Why do you ask?

I want to put one on my 96 f-250, and wanted some feedback from somebody who had experience with them, that's all.

Lol, well ask away! I've seen plenty of discussions about them.

The popular one around here is Trans-Dapt dual filter relocation kit:
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

This will allow you to relocate your current filter to somewhere else (I've seen them mounted to the frame rail and also on the inner fender in the engine compartment), and also allows you to add another filter to the system. One thing to note is that the filters are NOT inline with each other, they are in parallel; so your oil isn't going to get filtered TWICE, it will just distribute any particulate in your oil amongst the two filters to prevent clogged filters and help your oil life.

Another comment I've seen with the relocation kit is that the hoses are too short to really take the filters very far from the current location, so I've read that longer hoses can be requested from Trans-Dapt at a reasonable price.

Anything else you'd like to know?

Ahh yes how could I forget

It also gives you the ability to run the bigger FL-1A filters that the Bronco's use instead of the smaller 820s.

FYI my van takes the FL1A in it's original form, but now it takes 2 of them so I get ~1 extra court of oil.

And skan, where is my sig pic?????

I thought all of these trucks and broncos 4.9 5.0 5.8 use the FL-1A filters. The 820 is for modular 4.6 and maybe 5.4 right? Our 97 Cobra uses the 820. Why would his 96 F250 use the 820? I know a couple people that have added the oil filter relocation kit to their vehicles. One is a 65 F100, the other is a 66 F100, and a 66 Mustang. None of them have had any problems. All of them have had their dual FL-1A setup for several years.

I tried to the put the FL-1A on my truck and it hit the axle housing... After seeing this I did a little research and found that the correct filter for my truck was the 820S. I bought it and it fit like a glove. The filter is exactly the same but a bit shorter.

My 88 Stang with the 5.0 took the FL1A or in Fram 8A, and dads old 88 Crown Vic took the same, but it never fit. It hit the steering shaft. So we used the PH2 which is what my 95 F350 5.8, and my moms 96 Grand Marquis with 4.6 takes. So the same threads just smaller or bigger. I never get the Ford ones, my dealer closed up and closest is over an hr away. My dad and I have been runnin fram forever and our cars are fine so its all good. Chris you beat me to it.

Fram is bad news brother... Do you have a nearby Walmart? Our Walmart stocks Motorcraft filters.

My 96 F-250 uses the bigger FL-1A filter. Soon it will have 2. Thanks again for the information.
