Unhappy By The Way, DTRL = Day Time Running Lights

I'm amazed that there are no comments on the blinking / flashing Day Time Running Lights and how to rectify them. This is on a 2000 or 2001 Escape, I'm just trying to help a neighbour to fix them, we are from Canada.

Thanks in advance.

Smile Dtrl's

They have been a requirement for years in Canada, I have a 94 pick-up and they have DTRL's.

Okay this is a shot in the dark, because as xkpsanit noted, they aren't required in the US. The only vehicle I've worked with that have DRLs were Chevy Silverado's, they have a sensor that tells the DRLs when the truck is in Park. If the sensor got dirty and sent erroneous signals, the DRLs could cycle at random times, though I've never heard of them flashing.

I'd personally look for a Canadian wiring diagram for the Escape headlight system and see if their was a sensor or something. Of course, this would only work if the Escape DRLs only light when the vehicle is in gear, and not also in park.

I've got an 01 xls, had same problem.(also from Canada) Change the DTRL module, as it is known to act up. This fixed mine and was about a $100 from dealer.

Sounds like a common problem. Mine started blinking a week ago. I was trying to fix the module, but it's solid block, no way to open it. Looks like the only way to fix it is to replace. I can't find them online, seems have to buy it from dealer.
