94 F-150 EO4 4x4 slams hard when shifting
1994 F-150 4x4 EO4 at 150,000 replaced torque converter, solenoid pack, filter because of torque converter tranny shudder. Then every thing was fine for about 3,000 miles. Then went to pass some one crawling along on the interstate, and just as the tranny downshifted, all of a sudden the tranny slipped and the rpms revved, only after rpms slowing down did the tranny re-engage. from that point onward. the tranny now slams hard when it shifts F, R, and 1st. to 2nd. and the OD lock-out switch when engaged, causes the tranny to act like it wants to shift, but goes right back to where it was in OD? .. as though 3rd gear was missing. 4x4 mode still works. Tranny always shifts hard now and sometimes something whines when really cold on cold start, but if I put it into 4x4 whine goes away and then when i take it out of 4x4 whine is still gone. scared to step on the gas pedal now.... Whats up ???

Well the whining could be a bearing or thrust washer getting "pinched" from other moving parts or a loose piece causing the noise. As for the "wanting to shift" see if there are any fault codes. It might be a loosened connection for a sensor from driving. Hard shifting is not necessarily bad but if it gets to be too much then you need a possible diagnostic &/or R&R of the internal discs and seals along with overlook of other parts. So lets see what comes up on any code readers first since that is easiest.
