I Need Some Feedback!

The 300 I6 I have in my truck need's some work done.I have to pull the motor to drop the pan.I'm not sure what the problem is,makes a knocking noise. So my delema is,-I found a another 300,I'm just waiting for the wrecker to do the compression test and all that.If the motor is good should I buy it,do the re'n're, then tear down the original 300 and re-build it proper? What do you guy's think? The main reason I'm thinking about this route,is so I can keep driving my truck.I really don't know how long it would take me to re-build the motor. And besides 2 300's could reall be an advantage to me.

As long as it is just labour for the swap... I don't see a problem.

what I don't see is pouring money in a white elephant as far as parts go.

Between Dennis and yourself I beleive you answer your own feedback. lol
I would wavier cost verse down time anyday. If your truck is a daily needed transportation, my second sentence is answered.
Atleast your not trying to swap a big block & six exchange, over night.

I had a 300 that a piston skirt broke off.I pulled the head and pan and the piston.Had a machine shop press a new piston on and had it all back together in less then a day.Never had another problem with it.Unplug a sparkplug wire one at a time to hear the sound change will tell you which cylinder.Cost was minimal.

I might mention that when it started knocking I shut it off right away so it didnt have time to do any other damage.

That's interesting.Another signe of just how tough these motor's really are.I'll give the spark plug wire test a listen, see what I can find.the knocking has been going on for awhile, hopefully it's not doing any damage.I have been watching my rev's,kinda babying it till I get somethig figured out.
