I don't know too much about engines, but I have read that the new Ford and Chevy engines are turning out those numbers at fairly high RPM's, and can't do so all day. I don't know that these truck engines could work day in and day out at Peak HP or TQ, and hold up for very long.
Maybe that's what Toyota is looking to do, get a larger displacement, and have sufficient TQ and HP for working, and be able to make it all day long, day after day, and still hold up.
I would certainly sacrafice HP and TQ for some better MPG, sufficient power and adequate MPG is more important than more power than my neighbor.
If you call 1600RPM for max torque , and 3000RPM for max HP high RPMs, atleast for the DMAX and the cummins. I think its 2000 for max torque and 3200 for max HP for the 6.4 PSD.
Yea but the HINO is making its max torque close to the same RPMs that our Fords, Chevys and Dodges idle. That will be impressive

I don't get most of you guys on here. Everything new that comes out new and even from ford, you all hate. I can remember when the 08's hit the market, most of you hated it can swore that you would never buy. blah blah blah. It's called change, most people can handle it. Some of you guys come across that if its not a ford, and not your type of vehicle, then it must be junk(even with an eaton tranny). You all know dang well the toyota is a killer of a truck and it sounds to me like some of you might feel a bit threatened because you know the just might have made a better truck. They all make great vehicles and truth be known theres not much of a difference between them all anyway. one word comes to mind when I read threads like this...insecure

I think that it is a nice looking truck and there will defianitly be a market for it especially if the MPG are up there. We might not be that market but there is a market for that truck.
And...that market will be good for us as it will motivate the big three to get off of their asses and give us better products. IMHO

Well, I have a 2000 F350, and while it is a great truck, I am not pleased with Ford's quality for the money. At 50000 miles I had to replace all of the ball joints, do a complete brake job (rotors, calipers, pads), and replace the fuel rail, as well as other maintenance. I have constant problems with the door closed sensors and rust on the doors. At 90000 miles I again had to do a complete break job (that is 3 sets of rotors, calipers, and pads now). Oh, yea, I can' forget my oil pan rusting though - that is a $1000 bill to replace. fficeffice" /> > > > >
Yea, I'd buy a Toy 1 ton Diesel after living with Ford's Quality Job One. > > > >

I remember people underestimating the impact toyota would have on the compact truck market , then the 1/2 ton market, So yea nothing to worry about. No one will buy a better product. They will stick with FORD.
Nothing is indestructable, but some people are sick of ford not always producing great product like they should.
I dislike the looks of that toyota, and I know nothing of the hino engines. Going to a E/F tranny is a cool idea, and that should be a tough tranny.
I think toyota make one of the best small economy type cars but IMO thats where they should keep either R&D cash spent.
I guess i see why they wanna hit the market though, and Im sure they will be somewhat of a competitor, kinda like the toyota "half tons" are with the f150.

Its funny how people think Toyotas are indestructable.
No kidding, their average life expectancy is darn shorter than the N american brands as of the tundra release...
Got motor?

The only way to wear out the brake pads, is by driving the you-know-what out of the vehicle, which obviously wore out the ball joints sooner than expected.
Also guys, notice how they say that the truck is configured wildly different than an actual production model would be....
Their using a 8.0 I6 engine, which is probably so heavy that the truck is in the 10-15 MPG range.
Toyota, is known for tiny high reving engines, and I expect to see a mid sized or full sized truck with a small 4-6 cyl that is twin turbo'd and get real good mileage. If they sold a half ton which gets 30 MPG, they'd sell a ton.
