Post Carb Problems

Im running a Holley carb on my 460 in my 79 Bronco. It has a twin fuel line or double pumper line (i cant remember what the guy who i bought it from said) i just know that a fuel line hooks into a metal rod which splits and turns into two lines going in the carb. We tried to take it offroad today and did rather well except that when i hit a bump pretty hard i think i flooded the carb really bad cause it shut off right away and took a few minutes before it would start. Im also leaking fuel out of the lines where they are connected to the carb and i wrapped them with teflone tape but they still leaked. I dont know what the size of the carb is but i know it is tuned wrong. The timing is way off at about 30 instead of 10 and when we got it to 10 we could not get the engine to restart. I have a few questions. First my whole car would shake between 10 and about 45 to 50 mph and then stop when i went over 50. the front also shimmied to the side it felt like( the wheels just turned to the side and it was bouncing funny). Is this a timing or carb problem. Is there a way to make this carb better offroad( I heard about putting a spounge or something in the fuel bowl that holley makes( just so it wont flood offroad). What would be a good 4bbl i could put on instead of this carb that would give me great onroad and offroad use but at the same time save me some money cause i just put 1300 in tires on it. Last question( i know this is alot but im really stumped on this). Would it benefit me to just rebuild the carb and set the distributor to 10 degrees on the timing and hope that the carb will be tuned right and the car will start. Thankyou for all your help in the past and i hope this is enough for you to help me on this problem (sorry for the lenght but i dont want to leave anything out).
