back to the Cornhusker state from New Jersey on Sunday night. Truck ran well all the way didnt miss a beat until I was about 40 miles away from the final stopping point and bam......my truck jerks a little and I watch the speedometer fall to zero, no cruise control. So I pull over at a truck stop figuring blown fuses....replace 2 blown fuses and still not fixing the problem. I go and get back on I-80 and all of the sudden the tranny is having problems shifting. I finally get it home and take it in the shop the next day. My rear-wheel speed sensor went. I couldnt believe it effects all that stuff. Also Ford said there is a recall out for my cruise control. They said the system in my 99 F250 has been starting on fire due to brake fluid leaking onto the wires and causing a fire. Their fix (for now until Ford comes out with a part) is unhooking the cruise control.......I guess its better than a fire. But all that aside I made it and its good to be home......ITS COLD!!!!!! but good to be home.
Glad to hear you made the trip OK. I thought Ford had the cruise control thing taken care of. They fixed my 02 F150 back in 2006 right before I sold it, just had to wait a couple days for the parts to get sent into the dealer. Maybe it's a different CC system on the F250?
Hey Jay, welcome home!!! I had the same issues with my '97 and my wifes 2000 Expedition. They unplugged the cruise until the parts came in, I think this was about 2 or 3 years ago. Glad you made it back without too many problems! It's amazing how many things can go wrong when one little sensor fails.
Is the F250 an gasser or an oil burner? On the diesels the cam position sensor can cause problems too. Ford finally just did a recall on the one for the 7.3 psd's. LOL - 5 years after they quit putting them in the Super Duties.

ya my 99 had the same thing too, but i got it fixed right away...my old man on the other hand is too stubborn to do it...won't even buy free parts, that's my dad!

Just curious Jay, but what kind of mileage are you getting out of that 5.4?
Terrible to say the least, I was getting 13 on the Hwy and 10 in the city. I need to sell her and go buy a F150. Its just not enough motor for a 3/4 ton truck.
Well if you do go with a 1/2 ton don't get anything less than the 5.4. The 4.6 isn't enough if you do much more than just drive it. I've pulled quite abit with my old 4.6........but you didn't go anywhere faster than a walking pace.....

My 4.6 is great on the highway...unloaded! I've tried to pull my boat with it. I can do 55 as long as the road is level. Throw in any kind of hill at all, and watch the speed drop!! That's why I bought my diesel.

5.4 in a super duty isn't a bad enjine if you aren't going to be doing a bunch of heavy towing on a regular basis. It won't be a hot rod either, but probably just decent transportation. Diesels with the extra power are great, and you'll get better fuel mileage, but when you factor in the extra cost of the engine etc. and the 30 to 50 cents a gallon extra you pay for diesel the last few years, there isn't much of a cost per mile savings unless up put on a bunch of miles.
