Angry Help Innova 3120 won't read codes

Could someone please help me out. i have a 2001 F350 6.8L engine that is missing and stumbling with low power. My buddy loaned me his Innova 3120 code reader. I can't get it to read my codes at all. It does not behave at all like the owners manual of the code reader indicates it should. My buddy has used it several times and swears by it. I'm just swearing at it and my truck!!!!!! When I plug it in my it turned off it does not energize like the manual says it should. With it plugged in and off if i turn my ignition switch to "on" the code reader energizes, but immediaely powers off if i try and link to the truck by pressing the link/power button.

Yep that'll do it. The easy check for the future, engineers usually tie the diag port in with the cigarette lighter port.

Look, see these two tow hooks? They look like tusks. And what kind of animal has tusks?

there's a very fine line between not listening, and not caring. I like to think that I walk that line every day of my life.
