The documents from Ford do exist. The 429 enigne was Never installed in a truck. It was also not made after 1972. The 460 was an option in the F-150 when it first came out in 1975 you had to have a 6050 GVWR 2wd and the trailer tow group C2. The list price of the upgrade is 496.00.In 1978 the 460 was no longer a option in the F-150 due to new EPA certs which now required the F-150 to be emissons compliant. From 1978 to 1979 the only options were the 300,302,351m and 400. The 460 uses the same bellhousing as the 351m/400 so its a easy swap , people really need to check their vin plates and stop saying its a "factory" truck. Because its not.
Uh, for your information , the 429 WAS made in 1973 , and WAS available in the T-Bird, LTD/Marquis, Torino/Montego/Ranchero cars , but not in the trucks. I just wanted to point out that it was an option on the cars . I had a 1973 Grand Sport Torino Fastback with the 429 engine , and it ran good after some tuning(cam and ignition advanced) even with the low compression ratio.

as other have already stated, the 460 WAS available from the factory in '78 and '79 F-150 2 wheel drive trucks.
That's right! My dad had a 79 F-150 with a 460 from the factory. It is a 2 wheel drive. My friend had one that he bought it new with a 460. He pulled a horse trailer loaded at 70mph!
not true you could get the 460 in the f150 my uncles plow truck was an f150 and had a 460. I also have a book just on the history of the f150 and it shows 460 was available.
Thats for the discussion but I was only trying to see if the 6.2 will be the biggest block ever installed from the factory by ford. Lets just agree that it is one of the biggest!!!
Sorry guys , Not Buying.
I Have all the 78-79 Books, Shop man, Order guides, ect. I ordered a 79 in 78 not my Dad or friend or gardner. All 460 trucks had a dana model 70 in rear (35 spline)
Your Truck Has a 31 spline 9" right, Like all F150's., There where also many 460 bronco built. (NOT). Another myth.
Sorry just won't belive unless I see it.
I always thought that the current F150 needed more engine. I was never quite satisfied with my 5.4, the '06 seemed weaker than my '01. Probably due to weight differences that 40 hp could not make up for.
A V10 of 5.8 liters based off of the 4.6 would be an excellent F150 motor. All the tooling is there to make it. The public would probably shy away from it though.
It'll be interesting to see what the future of the modular motors are considering that Ford is shutting down the Windsor, Ontario motor plant.
We'll only know more about the 6.2 when Ford lets us know. Ford did a good job holding back info on the '09 F150. Especially given how easy it is for info to leak these days.
