For 56, the stock battery location under the passenger floor board works pretty good. For access all I have to do is remove 4 edge trim screws and lift the carpet .(section left unglued) to reach battery cover.

I also left my 56 battery in the stock under floor location. My carper arrangement (when I install some) will be like B/B ford's. I plan on a remote cutout switch and remote terminals for jump starting.

Mine is the same. 4 small screws and the trim comes off. Then lift the carpet. With modern batteries....just how often do you need to get to them?

Mine has been under there for nearly 2 years now. I replaced it with a new one right after I bought the truck and have not had to get in there yet.

If it should ever need charging...I can do that at the solenoid. Unless I need to clean the cables...I doubt I ever need in there until the battery goes bad someday.

The battery in mine has never been anywhere but the stock location. I noticed, when I was daily driving it way back when, that you either need to select a battery with an integral strap or keep a strap on hand. That's the only problem I ever found with that location and it's a simple fix, anyhow.

A strap? Mine has a bracket that bolts the battery down. Mine is not the original holder though. It is made from small angle iron.

No, no! The strap is for every few years when you need to remove and replace the battery. It bolts in easily but can be awkward to remove.

Sorry for the confusion.

Ahhh...ok. Got it now. I didn't pay any attention to mine, but both the old one and the one I installed had a "carry strap" built in now that you bring it up.

I am considered putting a small gel type battery (Optima) under the seat

My brake booster is occupying the space where the original battery was mounted

Is this a bad idea ?

Why not put it under the floor on the Left side. You could fabricate a cover for access. Being a right hand drive, I would think you would have plenty of room there. I’m not a big fan of batteries inside the cab. Just my 2 cents.

I have mine in the stock 56 F100 location with a remote cutout switch and remote terminals for jump starting. My battery is a optima. Seems to work very well.

The optima battery can be mounted anywhere, even on it's side. They are not very small tho. I'm still deciding where to mount mine.

Hi Randy, I think the remote shut off is a good idea and I plan to add one soon.

I have run my battery(optima red top) down just once now in two years.(the key was accidently left on by the LOML). It was so easy to lift carpet and remove the battery cover for charging that I didn't see a "need" for remote terminals. Knowing you though, I am sure you will come up with something that is really "trick" for charging.

All the above for me as well. I did use a SS drop down box to access from a lift if ever needed but I think it was overkill but it does offer extra protection for the battery case ( optima redtop) so it ok.
