JB Weld

Went to the Depot today to get some JB Weld, needed a little to patch a pin hole leak in something. Thinking that maybe they might have it in the plumbing section I venture over to that area and start looking....? Dont see any so I ask the "kid" in the "orange smock"........"Do you know where they have the JB Weld at"? This was his responce......"DO YOU WELD WITH IT"? And to think he works at a NATIONAL CHAIN HARDWARE STORE. Finally found it over in the paint section.......go figger! "Here's your sign"

I use it all the time to weld. Just watch out for that smoke....makes you do funny things and ask stupid questions.....Maybe the guy in the orange smock hasn't been wearing a respirator when he's used it to weld.....

My two local home depots have the JB weld in the paint section next to the masking tape shelfs, just above the shelf of various glues like Elmers and "Gorilla Snot".

My loca ace hardware has JB weld in the automotive isle mixed in with all the light bulbs for some reason, right in the center.

Not all home depot/hardware store/lowes employees are morons. While many of them aren't even slightly helpful and point in vague directions while mumbling, every so often you find a few really knowledgeable folks who go far out of their way to be a true help.

Case in point, I was buying an electrical sub-panel for a customer of a friend and the guy who helped me reminded me that I needed a seperate buss-bar for the ground in that box, and to "stake it". I knew this of course as I've done more electrical than I care to admit but since I had my son with me and he was pitching one of his very rare fits I had totally forgotten about it so not only did he remind me, he helped me pick the specific ground buss that fits into that particular box, then walked me over to the hardware section and picked out the three screws that weren't included, then opened the sub-panel box and screwed it together to verify that his selections were the appropriate ones.

Makes up for the moron who sent me to the light bulb isle when I was looking for mower blades last summer

Never said they were all morons, Just feel that retirees and people from the trades go to work for Ace or the smaller hometown stores. They are usually the really Knowledgable ones

The manager of my local, recently opened, orange box store has a rule for his employees that prohibits them from pointing. He apparently considers it impolite.

If you are foolish enough to ask an employee where you might find something they have two (actually three) options.

Option One: "Uh, aisle number seven, halfway down"

Option Two: Actually take you to the location. Yeah right!

Option Three: "We don't carry that".

As a customer you have two options.

Option One: Keep going to this store and prove that you're an idiot.

Option Two: Never go there again. Go to Ace, True Value, Lowes, etc. and hope that this store goes out of business soon.

I know you didn't. *I* say it all the time because my frustration with the big chains is very high. Before home depot came to town (literally, 1.3 miles from my house) there were two family-owned hardware stores and between the two of them, I could get anything I needed except for lumber, sheet rock, and general building supplies. Weird things too that only I would use

Both stores were very helpful, seemed to go out of their way to learn my name, my son's name, say hello, and help me find absolutely anything and everything I could possibly want. If it was something odd, they'd look it up in a variety of books they have and order it for me.

I didn't mind paying a small premium for good service and the convienence of being able to order a "B" type machine pulley in a weird diameter.

But, they're both gone.

The 2 big box stores put uor local hardware store out of business. Too Bad. The local store had just about everything you needed. Always on a first name basis too. I sure miss that store.

Sounds like when I asked for some Marine Tech for fixing a door hinge ... He asked if the door was on a boat ... Oh well ...
