'09 3v V10

I was reading one of those brochures you can get at an auto dealership the other day and it said in there that the new V10 "when properly equipped" is capable of out pulling the competitors diesel engines.

As much as I love the V10 even I am having a hard time believing this one. I mean the 6.4 (from what I have read) doesnt even out pull the Dmax or CTD. How do the guys for FoMoCo advertising justify saying such bold things in their brochures?

I guess that means it will outpull ford's own diesel, considering that Fords diesel is rated the same as the cummins, and the DMAX is silghtly higher then both of them

No no, they mean that the properly equiped v10 F350 will outpull meaning rated higher GVWR then the competitors diesel GVWR ratings. Ford has the highest towing ratings.

WEll the new V10's really aren't much to sneeze at, I mean what are they now- like 460-some ft-lbs? Not bad for a gasser.

Wasn't there a magazine not that long ago that found in some instances the V10 with 4:30 gearing would out accelerate the Duramax even with a trailer?
I can't for the life of me remember what magazine it was though.

A V10 equipped SD has a higher GVWR than the diesel does so the V10 is rated to pull a slightly heavier fiver. Not much though, only like 400-500 lbs. Obviously because the V10 weighs roughly half of what the PSD does.

The Ford Diesel out pulls CTD and DMX. easily due to ford being a tougher truck.

Well isn't that an intelligent post?

Anyway, there was a magazine test not too long ago where the gasser V10 was faster unloaded or loaded then the Diesels, and the 6.4 PSd was the weakest of the diesels.

This might be what everyone is looking for as far as articles.

http://www.pickuptruck.com/html/2007...shootout1.html

This tested acceleration of all the players in the 3/4 and 1 ton market. All the biggest gas engines and all diesels. The Duramax equipped GM 1 ton was pretty handily the winner over everything in the test.

Of the gas engines the 6.0L GM combined with the 6L80E 6 speed auto was fastest even loaded with a 10,500lb trailer on level ground, and was in second place in elapsed time up a 7% grade. Interestingly if the grade was longer the GM would have ended up passing the V10 equipped Ford up the grade, as the GM was gaining speed more rapidly after the initial start. The GM topped the grade with the highest speed.

On the 15% grade loaded the V10 put up a nearly identical time as the 6.4. HMMMM.... maybe the brochure wasnt BS'ing me. I love the V10.

If Ford could get a decent transmission behind the V10 (since nobody tests sticks anymore), they could wipe the floor with everyone else in the gas engine segment.

I agree the old school 5 speed Torqushift was holding the Ford V10 back. The less powerful GM 6.0L V8 hooked up to the 6 speed was a better all around gasser, mostly due to having one more forward gear.

I also noticed that and found it kind of disapoiting at least for the diesel. That said in the comparison the 6.4L was easily the weakest of the diesels and agian it was out gunned in the tranny department as it was down one gear to it's competition.

I guess I was the only one that picked up on the truck WEIGHT.

The 6.8l is 1,240lbs heavier than the Dodge and Chevy gassers.

The 6.4l is around 1,000lbs heavier than both the Dodge and Chevy diesels.

Even with this weight DISADVANTAGE the Fords managed to match or beat the competition in many parts of the test. Hmm.

Hands down the Fords are built stout. Of course this comes with a weight penalty, but is the most desirable for a long lasting work truck.

If you are that worried about a truck that is a tad quicker than the Fords, maybe you should just buy that instead.

The Torqueshift is a stout and reliable tranny, sorry IMO the truck don't need a 6 speed.

Of all the bad mouthing of the Fords that I have been driving lately, the Torqshift is always the one shining light in the dark. That has got to be the toughest auto I've ever driven and I beat the crap out of a couple of them regularly.

The V10 (properly equiped) vs the 6.4 (stock anyway) is almost a wash. Both seem to pull about the same and the 6.4 isn't putting up mileage #s much better than the V10. With gas being much cheaper than diesel, and upkeep cheaper and easier, it would be hard to justify the diesel if you didn't just want it.
