It seems to me that a manual switch to activate torque converter lockup would override the hazard light problem. IIRC, the manual switch simply grounds the lockup mechanism, which overrides what the truck's computer is telling it what to do.

Did you ever check the center stop light as mentioned above?

Hi fellas,
Here is my update on 4way flashers/e4od and flashing od light problem.
I am very thankful to all u fellers a am pleased to post that all I did was change the burned out 3rd brake bulb and now everything works perfectly.
The od light stopped flashing, and the rpm's never fluctuated at all when 4ways on or 4ways off , no matter what speed or gear I was in. No Change Period!!!!!
Thanks again fellas
Btw , if that rpm change is normal for your e4od, u might have other issues.

2 nd update, E4od flashing od light.
Od flashing light came back, but does not do it all the time. When conditions permit I will check connections and re scan codes.
I sure am glad the flashers have no effect on the engine rpm at all as before. All I did was change the 3rd brake light bulb. That is amazing too me .
thanks again

Hmmm

Reading through this thread sends me in the right direction. I have a 97 and experience this same issue. My 3rd brake light is out, so I will start by replacing that bulb first. Only thing is that I get no sound (flasher) or indicator (visual blinking) from the flashers when I activate it. The TC does unlock. I also noticed that if I activate the flashers, and then start driving...my ABS light comes on and neither of the blinkers work. Crazy how they designed these things.

Update: well fellers ,after 2mo+ of rain I haven't driven or made any changes. Od light was still flashing until last night. I responded to a family emergency at warp speed . Lo and behold, On my way back I noticed od light was not flashing or lit at all. Ran code this am and got a 66 trans ovr temp +250 f indicated, and a 11 mem passed code. I pressed od button and the light still works.....hmmmmm? I touched nothing!!!!!
Can anyone elaborate. ????
Thx,
Gtxx

Last update....
I 've been driving the vehicle (94 F250 7.3 idi pre power stroke) more lately and no E4OD OD light issues, no rpm changes due to 4way flashers activation. after all the aggravation, and former expert advice, all I did was replaced the Psom chip on the speedometer which eliminated the slamming gear changes, replaced the blown 3rd brake light (on cab), cleaned-and replaced the transmission plug and drove the heck out of it . @present 244K mi
...and btw, the individual posted that they thought he was nuts cause he had a similar RPM flasher switch problem , I believe you, lol. And I'm not an engineer.
Thx fellers.

also , it AIN’T normal when you engage your flasher button and your engine revs up 300 rpm and drops back down when you disengage it.
(On any vehicle i have ever operated) 🤷🏽‍♂️ So
Was this a ford transmission engineering academy rule of thumb thing that no one but 30+ year experienced transmission engineers was taught????????!
Im jus wondering, im always open for technical expertise and experience, no matter where it comes from.
God bless

This is interesting.... I have a 94 f250 that had a IDI with e40d. I installed a PSD from a 95 f250 and the mating e40d. I have had TC lock and unlock issues since the install. still having them, once and a while,... Could this thread topic be part of my issue??

IIRC, the '94s didn't even have a center stop light, correct?

What PCM are you running?
