Annual Update

Hi Friends

I updated my gallery with a few bits that may be of interest

I fitted a Ford 5 speed type 9 gearbox to my flat 8
The usual T5s are hard to find over here so fetch a lot of money, the type 9 was used in a lot of European fords in the 80's, mine is a heavy duty version from a Transit Van so should cope with a relatively stock flattie

A previous owner had fitted (badly) a hanging pedal assembly with firewall mounted booster
I wanted a clean engine bay so I put the pedals back under the floor with a booster, dual curcuit M/C and hydraulic clutch
Because my truck is RHD I couldn't find a original pedal assembly or use one of the aftermarket systems so I built my own

I also put up some pic's of the Lucas wiper system I fitted

Progress has been slower than I would have liked mostly due to moving to a new house. This house has room for a decent size (by UK standards 24' x 24') workshop which I will build this summer, Hopefully things will move along a bit quicker when I don't have to travel to work on my truck

Steve - nice pics! Very innovative, huge tranny!

Can't help myself - "Lucas, Prince of Darkness".

I had a bunch of Sunbeams and Hillman's over the years. I know Lucas well, so much so, we've spent MANY an all-nighter together. Me fixing, him breaking!

Hey, all, know why the Brits drink warm beer?? They have Lucas refrigerators!

I got a million of them!!

Kidding aside, thanks for the update! Looking really good. It's bad enough finding parts over here, I couldn't imagine finding them over there! At least with the Sunbeams, we had a lot of dealers over here, especially when Chrysler bought them.

Hey Steve, great progress!!!! One question..... is that a metal lathe I see in the background of your pedals? I LOVE tools!! I have a 16" South Bend metal lathe, and I love it!!!! Old machine tools are great!! I also have a Cincinnati vertical mill. In my area, 3 phase equiptment is relatively cheap, as no one knows what to do with them. I made a phase convertor, and it works great!!!

Again, great progress, keep us posted. P.S. is your truck right hand drive? It looks like it in the pics???

Thanks for the replys

Yes Truxx I have a small lathe, 6" swing, when I build my new workshop I will look for a larger lathe and a mill, I will probably go with 3 phase and a inverter as well
was it difficult to make your own ?

And yes my truck is right hand drive, it originally came from South Africa

Regards

Steve

COOL man!! When you get ready, email me and I'll give you the plans to make a "rotary phase convertor"

Nice work on the trans conversion! Why do they offset the shifter to the left? Is that from a LHD vehicle?

The trans was from a RHD vehicle, I can't work out why they offset it to the left. I may swap it to the other side if I can work out how to do it
