I don't reallly like GM much at all, but I don't sign up at GM forums and then go on those forums bashing GM stuff either.
Maybe started with the Model T that anyone and everyone could afford to own and operate. Now, they are always the second best in sales. Never quite getting on top and staying there in sales. Always the bridesmaid...

But did half of them go out in 25000 miles? no. and the AOD is just a step down from the c6, dont know what youre talking about? And the e4od can easily be built to handle very decent power without issues? Maybe you need some good first hand experience with them? Its easy to let one bad misshap with one ruin your opinion of something..

At least those transmissions can be built to take serious power. I can get a 1000hp capable AODE/4R70W with a good warranty.

At any truck forums, you will have people coming MAINLY to diagnose a problem, not to come and share how great there truck is. I found this website to mainly learn more about my truck, but I think the majority of people come that have a question.

My truck is an '86 and I couldn't love it any more.

At least at 25000 miles, it's still under warranty. I have had the E4OD (1994 with a 5.8) and the 4R70W (2000 with a 5.4), and I have had problems with both of them, both under 100,000 miles, both with good maintence, and both with stock trucks.

Since the demise of the C series, I don't have a good thing to say about Ford autos until the Torqshift. The 4R100 was decent, but you could almost count on a rebuild before 100K, especially behind a diesel.

Not luck imho. I have nearly 30,000 more on mine than you have on yours. A friend has over two hundred fifty thousand on his 95 and it's all original.

I have worked in fleet maintenance for a very long time. Many of the fleets that I have worked for bought trucks from all the manufacturers, and I got to see them perform side by side, doing the same jobs, from when they were brand new until they were worn out or wrecked. Over the years, I did see some distictive trends. That is not to say that each and every vehicle made by 'X' was junk, or for that matter each and every vehicle made by 'Y' was perfect. But, there were some differences in overall cost-of-ownership and downtime.

Out of interest... what were your observations?

Was their a brand that had less downtime/cost of ownership?

That is just like saying that I can build my mustang engine to make 1000 HP. It can't from Ford. After having it built up with non ford pars, it's no longer the same trans IMO.

My friend in on his 3rd E40d in his 91 mustang behind a stock motor less than 100K on the whole car. I don't doubt that there are high mileage versions out there, but calling these trannies good while saying the Dodge trannies are junk is simply a joke. As non of these OD transmissions are as good as their C4, C6, or torqueflight counterparts. I work on vehicle for a living, ans the truth of it is that I rarely see a dodge crap out any drive train part be it motor, trans, or rear end. I really don't see any one make regularly grenading drive train parts. Though I do have an Exploreer with a bad 8.8 in the shop right now.

The E40D was never used in cars. You Mustang friend would have an AOD which is entirely different transmission.

No. Thing like case and fundamental designs of the internal parts cannot be easily changed. A 4R70W/AODE can be built to take a lot of power because strength is inherent in the original design. Only a few parts have to be discarded that are OEM, the vast majority are original and are blueprinted along with the addition of good clutches which any performance automatic needs regardless of make. Most Ford transmissions simply have more potential, with the exception of the 5R55.
