460 rebuild or short block

Greetings all,

I have a 75 460 in my 78 F150. It runs real good but burns a little oil. The 460 has a lot of miles on it and probably won't last too much longer. I can either rebuild it or get a new short block.

I was quoted $800 for a short block 460 from Checker Auto and I know it'll be a lot more to rebuild the one I have. The only performance mod I would make above stock would be a cam.

If it were you, would you rebuild or get the short block?
Anyone know the quality of engines from this place?

Thanks in advance.

Kevin K.

A short block doesnt come with the heads, which is more than likely where your problem is. Your valve stem seals are probly leacking.

If you're not gonna go with a performance mod, then just get the short block because then you'll at least have some form of a warranty with it. If you are gonna hop it up a bit, then build it yourself so that you know EXACTLY what you are getting.
