Question Sulpur Smell

Hi all, my first post! I own a 2005 EB expedition with 55k on the clock. The last month or so the truck will begin to smell like rotten eggs or sulphur! Any ideas what could be causing this? Maintanace is up to date, I use 87 ocatnne and have owned since day 1.
Thanks,
Dan

Your battery is producing that smell. Your alternator might be over charging it.I would get a charging system test and also get the battery tested.

I wouldn't be so certain about that without first asking if the smell is coming from the exhaust or from under the hood.

Thanks for thr replies! The smell happens in the actual truck and outside the vehicle as well! Would the EGR valve be the culprit??

No.

The source of the hydrogen sulfide has to be from one of two sources: Either from an over-cooking battery (outgassing) or from the exhaust.

If from the exhaust, it's usually due to excessive sulfur content in the fuel or is a result of spirited driving that has loaded the converters with fuel beyond their capacity to properly process it. A defective converter is a possibility, however, the other sources should be investigated and eliminated first.

If the source is from the exhaust, the first course of action is to change your place of purchase of your fuel and see if the odor goes away.
