New BII owner... need help

I have recently acquired a 1985 BII. It has 234000 miles on it and has been sitting for 5-6 years without running due to an inoperative fuel pump. I have replaced the pump, changed the oil and installed a new battery. It will now start but will not stay running without pumping the throttle. I have a salvaged Motorcraft 2150 A carb that I have no history on. My question(s): am I correct to think the carb is most likely the problem?, and if so should I re-build the salvage carb before trying it?
Any hints or suggestions will be most welcommed. I live in the southwest desert and hope to turn this little buggy into an off-road explorer.

if the fuel is pumping good to the front of the carb then I would think something would be wrong with the carb. Maybe a piece of sludge/rust stuck in it. You did empty out the old fuel and put new stuff in?

agreed.... but hell, a carb is pretty easy to drop on.... give it a whack.... the skin on your knuckles grows back fast, and by the way, in my experience a MC 2150 hardly ever needs a rebuild and check your vacuum lines from the manifold and from the distributor

Diaphragm is probably bad, usually can be swapped in without removing the carb on most vehicles, don't know about your vehicle since it has been a few years since I owned a 1984.
