2003 F250 4X4 PSD - How do I reset the "Average MPG" caluclator?
I have a 2003 F250 4X4 PSD.
How do I reset the "Average MPG" caluclator?
I asked because I have doubts that it is functioning properly.
Example:
Zero load, high-way driving.... the display shows 14.4mpg.
Zero load, in-town driving... the display shows 14.mpg.
1,000 lbs in the truck, pulling 4,000 lbs on the high-way for 600 miles (each way)..... the display shows 14.2mpg.
and since I've returned from the trip mentioned above with the 5K of load, it has not changed from displaying 14.2mpg.... even though I am back to high-way driving with zero load... been through 6 -8 tanks of fuel.
My expectation is that when I am traveling without a load on the high-way that it should get the best MPG.
Subsequently, when I am pulling a load, utilizing the "Tow" function (without engaging O/D), that it would get worse MPG.
However, it appears there is vurtually no difference registered / displayed in MPG regardless of how I drive or what I tow.
Ideas?
Thanks in advance...
Cecil

It's pretty simple.
You might want to do it when you fill up, but select the average mpg setting, then push & hold bpth buttons in and it will reset from that moment.
As you drive you can watch it increase & decrease, and it will slowly settle as you drive, and then it will average all the miles driven until you re-set it again.
That' all there is to it.
Good luck.

The gauge does not show the economy of what the truck is doing, It shows average MPG for the previous 500ish miles, So if you tow a heavy trailer for say 50 miles you should not expect a significant drop. Your economy for the 50 miles was down but averaged with the other 450 miles of normal economy the number wont drop a large amount. If you perform a reset, it is calculating fresh numbers so short term you will see unusual numbers i.e. if you reset going down hill it will temporally show a very big number (89 MPG wow) or at idle or going up a big hill low numbers (2 mpg need fuel quick) but soon the combined average of what the truck economy as been will produce a more normal number.
