Beverly Hillbillies Truck sold on Barrett/Jackson
#17
I went to IMDb.com yesterday and researched Beverly Hillbillies. The site sez that "Jed" wanted a newer car, and the show then had a new car built by George Barris similar to the original but with some sort of V8.
I've seen the real car in person, because in the 1960's/70's, I used to rent my cars to the studios. The car in the previous post looks like the correct one, but AFAIK, Barris had nothing to do with it.

The original car that was stolen by B&C had Ford factory accessory woven seat covers in a plaid pattern over the original mohair upholstery, and the factory accessory inverted triangular shaped grill guard on the front bumper. The cars color was Tacoma Cream.

The BH truck was listed as te one that George Barris built, it was complete with hillbilly dummies. I looked at it in the line up as it was going through and looked neat but not for that price. The guy that bought it has a personal collection and alot of money. I spent 2 days there last week and was dissapointed on the representation of Ford trucks, there was one 52 that was quite nice but sold for 45 K, out of my price range, there were a few others in the 50's but not much. Now if you wanted a Corvette you had several hundred to choose from.
There is alot of hooplaw at the auction and it will be worse in Vegas this fall.

My personal feeling is that the vehicles at the auction are very overpriced, good quality but overpriced. It is hurting the average guy who wants to buy a vehicle or even parts as now everyone thinks their vehicle and parts are worth a fortune as they just saw a truck like the one they have in the back field sell for $100,000. This auction as it is seen by almost everyone who has a TV gets a lot of interest going for people to restore a project but it also brain wash's you in to thinking all the junk laying around is worth more than it is.
Its great to see all the southern vehicles completely restored but it is fantasy land and is not the real world for most of us.

http://www.rfostermuseum.com/ here's a link to the College of the Ozarks Ralph Foster museum website and the picture that is on there looks like the car in the picture with the cast not the white car in the color picture.
A quote from the website:
One of the more famous exhibits is the original vehicle used in the television series "The Beverly Hillbillies".
I remembered seeing that car when I was about 12 and I didn't remember it being white! just my .02!
