fonefiddy, around here the people with half ton trucks usually haul a couple of sacks full of groceries. A handful tow boats under 5K lbs and a small percentage actually use them for work purposes. Half of those peeps could get by on a smaller truck but they just dont have enough room in the bed.

I understand your point and everything is a compromise.

I need a full size trucks, also. I usually carry 12-1500 lbs in/on my trucks and occasionally tow equipment. I'm not stupid enough to do it all with a 1/2 ton. My Diesels get 15-18 MPG Depending on load/terrain.

But I do need a 4X4 1/2 ton to haul smaller equipment, and supplies. There's no way it should get worse milage than my loaded diesels.

I think they should make a light half ton truck, maybe call it....The F-100 yeah thats cool. It should have all kinds of weight reduction surgery, possibly even be a totally different platform(costly I know), give it a stout 6 cylinder a small V8 and a diesel engine as an option. It shouldn't be rated to tow more than 8000 lbs. It should have the ability to be just as blinged out as the F-150 currently is. In the meantime the F-150 can replace a more traditional 3/4 ton(as opposed to super ginormous big huge ass goofy monster Super Duty) truck by making it heavier and giving it a bigger engine, and bump the towing up to like 13,000 pounds.

Umm. Ford allready has the F250/F350????

They just need to get the pork off the F150! Fark a bunch of 10K trailer capacity. That's what the 250+ are for!

I read something funny in this month's "Men's Health" - when it comes to picking up women, a "pair of jeans and a pickup" was rated 2nd place out of many other options, including Jags, Ferraris, Caddilacs. The only one to beat that combo is "pressed shirt and a BMW".

So, no one's going to give up their pickup truck fashion statement for a while, and the only option left is to make them more fuel efficient when guys try to hit on ladies with their 9000 lbs F450 in the middle of LA.
Well darn, if I would have known that, I would have bought a pickup back in 88 instead of my 5.0 LX Mustang

Yeah I know Ford has a 250 and 350, but who wants to drive them they are to freaking big to park and drive. I'm saying bump the 150 up to light 3/4 ton status it's already heavy enough, my buddies 98 Chevy 2500 is only like 6500 lbs. Whats the heaviest 1/2 ton Ford like 6200 lbs? They should just make the truck a little heavier and put the V-10 as an option with like a 13,000 lb towing capacity.

You must suck at driving then. A SD isn't much bigger than an F-150, I can get my SD where I please.

90's Chevy 2500 are weak little trucks. I worked on one at work wiring and mounting a hitch and salt spreader. The frame on my 74' F-100 is thicker than that 93' 2500 was, especially in the back.

I highly doubt you'll fit a 6.8l in an F-150, not without a redesign. The F-150 and SDs are fine the way they are set up, no need to screw around with weight capacities.

It's true. Park a SD next to a F150, there's not much differance

Until you get into the tighter parking garage. Then the difference shows up.

Trucks don't belong in parking garages anyway.

Of course I don't live in the city.

Like I said, dimension wise, there's not much differance.

The F150 SCab 6.5 is listed @229.8" X 78.9"
The F250 SCab 6.75 is listed @231.8" X 79"

So the F250 is 2" longer and .10" wider.

I believe you sit a tad higher in the SD than you do the F-150s, thats why people think they are bigger and tougher to maneuver.

The turning raduis is larger on the SDs though due to the solid front axle. I love driving my SD, I'm glad I bought it over the F-150 I test drove.
