Would the commercials make you sleep better?

Ok, Time for another rant.......Toyota commercials....

I can't tell you how many times I've seen these "real world" tests on TV.

For example--how many of you would ever load your truck to the absolute max, then assuming you could find it, would drive with the load up a giant teeter-totter to see if the brakes worked on the other side? Not only would I not try this, I've never even seen a giant teeter-totter

Or this one....your driving down the road, you see a huge steel superstructure with 2 massive swinging I-beams.....so what do you? Well, of course you try to drive between them and stop then go.

Or my personal favorite....how many times have you had a construction container that just happened to be chained to your truck fall over a desert canyon and you floor it to be able to pull that container back up & over the edge of the wall...(btw, if you watch that commercial, the truck stops moving long before the container does, so not only does the truck pull the container, but it creates enough momentum to keep the container moving straight up and over theside of the canyon even when the cable goes slack)

I guess my point is will all these great abilities, why wouldn't we all run out and buy Toyotas? I know that I would sure sleep better knowing my truck can do all of these things...wouldn't you? Especially if I lived in the land of giant erector sets and playground equipment.......wait a minute......the first three letters are T.O.Y.......ah, nevermind.

(the above post was meant in good humor towards the adverstising agencies and their ability to mock our intelligence, not towards the capabilities of any particular vehicle.)

Good point

My favorite was the guys saying " I want to haul a combine". I'm thinking what the hell! So I did some checking...Your run of the mill combine, say Case IH, the smallest current model, 2270 I believe, weighs in at 27k. Just say no to bs advertisements.

Ford is no better, dropping F150s out of the back of cargo planes and then applying the brakes to stop the plane.

yeah but a ford truck could stop a plane if you think about...you throw a 7000 lbs anchor behine it , at some point it would stop ...now if they said it would stop it in like a 1000 or 2000 feet they would be lieing off their butts!!!

in that same aspect, a tundra, ram or silverado could also stop that plane also. my favorite one is the titan commercial with the frame and the train. in that commercial, they say "this is the strongest frame WE have ever made" like its an offical accomplishment.

Forgot about that one!

That one must have been just a fiberglass train shell, because we all know just the momentum from a train engine would bend that frame around like a paper tube.
Comment about the ford commercial, while its true, they seem to want some shock value, it would have been better to show some technical aspect of the vented brakes, like say, truck "A", and the ford, what the rotors are able to dissapate vs the other, thus less heat, better grip, longer lasting rotors and pads ect.

my favorite is the titan commercial where they test the frame around a pole and pull on it with some chains.... then the chains break. what *******es, lets use some weak chain then stand around to watch it break. I want to see them use some 100k lb tow straps and see what break.

And they all drive on empty roads.
With no traffic in front of you, no cops behind you and no puking, screaming kids in the back seat.

It's all fantasy.

There used to be a commercial of the Titan going through some deep mud in slow motion. The background was dark as hell, all you could really see was the truck going through the mud. The final shot showed the front end on the Titan, I guess to capture the Nissan logo. However you could also see the front end vibrating like crazy, so much so that the grill and the upper part of the front bumper were rubbing against each other. The back ground music was "iron man", I guess Nissan must have caught onto this and pulled the ad because it looked like the front end of their truck was going to fall off. I tried looking for this ad but I can't find it anywhere. Do you guys know which one I am talking about?

My favorite is the Super Duty pulling the semi out of the tunnel it's stuck in. Only because I could totally see a SD doing that. The F150 stopping the plane is also believable, but not in the amount of time they show it happening. It almost makes me wanna drop my Exploder out the back of a plane and try to stop it.
