cat questions?

I just wanted to know if i remove my cats on my '99 F150 with the 4.2L V6 will it give out any code? or will the SES will come out? I currently have the Gibson duals that exits both after the rear wheels and they sound great but still looking for more deeper tone. That's why i thought of getting rid of my cats, question is will it give me codes, will the Service light come out? Will it affect the emissions output if i remove the cats?

Looking for some inputs regarding the matter.

Thanks in advance

If you have O2 sensors after the cats it will throw a code. If the O2 sensors are on the Y-pipe before the cats you'll be fine.

Its a '99 It will set a code if you remove the cats because it is newer than '96 and it is not large enough to be exempt from any emissions laws. Why would you want to? A quick check on the backpressure of a good cat for that model year reveals less than .25 lbs backpressure. Thats almost nothing in terms of the performance of the vehicle. The only significant thing you will get from removing them is an increase in the sound level. If you really want sound, use a single muffler with a dual outlet. Such a muffler will put out more sound than a true dual of comparable configuration.
