Hello, I own a 97 F150 2wd and am in the process of looking for a set of tires. They will be going on aftermarket rims. I do 95% of my driving on the road, plus I'm from MN, so snow/rain is an issue.
I have been looking at and researching several different brands, styles, etc. Most of my info has been from people at tire shops (firestone, goodyear, tires plus, etc.) I have heard that Michelins are the best way to go all around. I was also told that bridgestones are pretty good too. For me, money is not too big of an issue when it comes to tires. I want something good. I think I've narrowed it down to Michelins, but I'd like an opinion from everyone here before I proceed with my purchase. Anyone have good results from Michelins, BFGs, Bridgestones, or other tires? What do you prefer?

 

Have you ever heard or looked in General Grabber AT2's, I had them for my last set, they were an excellent tire during the winter months, I only switched to the Kumho MT's because I wanted to try'em out on my truck.

 

I just went through the whole tire research process. I went with the bridgestone Dueller A/T revos, I've been through 2 snow storms, rain, freezing rain etc. in the last 2 weeks (gotta love the north east) and these tires have been outstanding. I had it down to these, BFG A/T KO's or Pro comp Xterrains (just because Ive had them in the past, if I was going to take it mudding alot I would have gone with these). I took off the mastercraft courser A/Ts and it is like night and day, I havent had to put it in 4 wheel yet, I probably should have during the snow but I wanted to test the tires. With the Master crafts (3 > 75%, 1 was worn weird and wouldnt hold air), I had to use 4WD to get from my drive to the road, with the revo's I havent even spun (unless I tried to). I never would have bought these until I read everyons reviews here, I havent heard a bad word about them yet. I also went from 265 to 285 but I dont think its made an difference.

 

Bridgestone Dueller Revo AT's are very nice but also very pricey. I've ran just about everything and the best I have had were General Grabber AW's (not sure if they are even made any more) and my current Toyo Open Country AT's which have a tread much like the Revo's but cost about $40 less a tire. Some of the worst tires I have had were BFG TA/KO's (they were great for the first 10K miles then just plain sucked and wore out way too fast for the price) I also had a set of GoodYear Wranglers that weren't the best in snow but they lasted longer than I expected them to.

 

i am running the michelin ltx's.it has been a great tire for me.great traction in the rain.
on my 86 im running bfg all terrians ,i feel like they are a great tire also but down to a choice id pick the michelins.

 

I also have the Bridgestone Dueler Revo's and I would never buy another tire. These have been outstanding for everyday driving, rain and now the snow without slipping or sliding. I also went with a larger size for my 17" rims, 285/70/17.

 

I would suggest that you re-evaluate the Goodyear Brand and look at their Fortera with Silent-Armour. I have them on my 97 5.4 2wd and they are great. Good ride, good traction and a fairly quite even at 80+.

 

I forgot to mention since you will mainly be on the highway and I assume not any hardcore offroading since it is 2wd, get a P rated tire it will cost a lot less than an LT tire and will give a better ride.

 

Bought the Michelin LTX A/T a few months back. I live on a ridge line in Far Western Maryland on a private gravel lane up a steep hill. Wonderful set of tires -- gets it done. The rating on tirerack was really good.

LTX A/T 2 is the newest of the line. I was a little hesitate to buy these because they had not been out long enough to get many folks to rate them. But they might also be a great tire.

Michelin had $50 rebate on 4 tires so that helped bring the cost down a bit. They are not cheap... BTW, I got the rebate check 2 or 3 weeks.

 

I've been buying Nitto Terra Grapplers for the past 4 or 5 years for my trucks and have never had any problems with them. Great in dirt, sand, mud, snow, ice, and they'll even drive on dry pavement lol! They are a little noisy as they are an all-terrain, but not near as bad as the higher priced brands of all-terrains. I have mine in the 285/75 R16 on the '98 F150 and they look great and perform great! Plus at around $170 a tire mounted and balanced they're a great deal too!
