Tough question. Been a Ford man for over 30 years, but have been less than impressed with my '06. Won't be in the market till 2010 or 11, must say the new Dodge will definitely get a hard look from me. If Ford can't put a motor in these heavy slugs that won't be embarrassing and doesn't up their warranty to 100k, I'll check out the Dodge. With the money they're getting these days for a truck, if I'm not thoroughly impressed with either, I'll say the hell with this new stuff and find a fully restored '73-'77 F-150/250, the best looking Ford trucks ever made, IMO.
It depends on weather or not Dodge still has the manual trans available when I'm ready to buy, if they do the new F150 will have to be quite impressive to keep me with Ford.
Added on edit: I just read the Motor Trend article linked to in another post here and if it's true that "Ford's traction- and stability-control systems are now standard on all F-150 models, from the base work truck up" it's not looking good for Ford as far as getting my money is concerned.
I am in that same boat right now. Big Ford fan, but I dont konw what has happened to them. Everyone else is beating them in everything. The new F-150 looks nice, but if they put that tired 5.4 in there again it will not be worth it. I have an 02 Screw, I love this truck. It still gives me 15mpg in the city. In my opinion, these trucks were better than the 04-08 models. That is what stopped me from trading it in. My next truck will be a Tundra or Titan, dont like Chevy or Dodge. Unless Ford does something about numbers, options and warranties.

yeah, your really a big ford fan saying you are going to buy a tundra or titan. fi you are a ford fan you will buy one no matter what. if you buy a tundra you are going to have nothing but problems and they will not what to help you at all even if you call toyota, nissan titan-nissan has the worst quality on the market. not to mention they are both japanese owned and you monet goes to japan when you buy them. if i were you i would stick with ford and if you are going to jump off the wagon look at dodge.

EAT RICE, DONT DRIVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im just satying that none of the big three have stpped up to the plate. Ford dealers arent any better at helping when it comes to problems. Dodge will never be an option. If Ford retires the 5.4 i will get another f-150 if not who knows. As for the money going out of the country, i would rather have it go out and me ride in a new vehicle than to have it go out the country and have american soldiers get killed for no reason other than a stupid "leader". Here in Texas the Tundra has given 100,000 Texans jobs, compared to what GM did when it tooks its plants to mexico.
Oh to speak of the glory years.... "Ugly Crap" Is what they're being referred as. Those "ugly crap" trucks, sure they didn't ride amazingly(not what they were designed for)while not made of quiet steel, came with solid axles to handle abuse(no IFS for the wife to ride comfertibly), No fancy climate control or other interior amenities(then again...Cruise control, AC, Map lights in the explorer models were aval. so they weren't unbearable for the wife Just unbearable for those who don't have a want or a need for a vehicle that will last 30+ years of abuse)... On top of all that they still could be worked on by any regular joe, and are still around doing the same jobs they were designed for and have been doing for 40 years. While some describe it as "ugly crap" I hope I'm not alone when I say I think it's a beautiful thing. And as for those who think it's still "ugly crap" Don't worry, Ford probably won't build another truck that you'll have to look at for 30+ years again.

What do you mean, My 77 had dual climate control and everything, you want it cooler, open your own wing window, you want it warmer, close it
I just sold my 77 F150, I really hated to see her go, but I couldn't afford to insure it and drive it any more and I didn't want to just let it sit around and rot away.
I also like my 2001 droopy nosed F150 as mentioned in an earlier post.
Maybe later on, I'll transplant a 6.2L BOSS into it!!!
I am only 21 years old. I love ford trucks from 96 back to the 30's. but 97 and up F-150's suck as far as Im concerned. underpowered, ugly uncomfortable. I cant stand em. I will buy half tons from 96 on back super duties up to 07 and rangers up to 09. For a half ton though I'll prolly go with a hemi dodge.
I've been a Ford man all my life, and most of my family are Ford people too. I'm on my fourth Ford truck and have no regrets on any of them. Yes I do agree the 5.4 and 4.6 aren't as powerful as the competition, but the 5.4 is no slouch either. Ford makes well built and tough trucks that have been proven to last, and although some of us may have had some issues on some of our trucks, that is only a small majority of trucks, not all Ford trucks. There are big changes going on a Ford Motor Co., changes for the better IMO, quality and safety rank very high on the new models. Ford will not let the F-Series trucks be un-competitive in today's market.
I'm a level 2 master tech in the autobody industry, and I have worked on the new Tundra, absolutely un-impressed with it's build quality inside and out, very un-Toyota like IMO. The Titan isn't as durable a truck as Ford, Chevy or Dodge. I have said this before in other threads and I will sat it again; the 6 speed transmission that is comming for the F-150 will help make a big difference in power and economy. Mabey that will help satisfy our thirst for more power and better fuel economy.
I guess I don't understand the hype around "more power". My 5.4 has more power than I'll ever need, and I would gladly trade away some power for better fuel economy. I looked real close at a new Dodge Hemi when I bought my '06 F150. I thought the 5.4 actually accelerated smoother and was quieter then the Dodge. Was the Ford or Dodge faster? I don't care what the truck tabloids and the commercials say. Honestly, I couldn't tell the difference in real world driving.

The issue is the 5.4 has the worst HP and it gets the worst MPG ratings too. I'm all for improvement of one or the other but together that is not a combo worth bragging about.
The Ford F150 needs a new engine. the proposed 10-30 HP increase will do nothing to boost the poor sales they have had recently.
I predict another down year for Fords F150 sales just because of the poor engine offerings.
