79 F350 4x4 with 4spd tranny. I have a 1971 351C with 4v heads to install in my truck. I do not have the bell housing with the engine. Will this engine work and what do I need.
Why not use a 400 crank in your 351M and have a bigger displacement and less work? The 351C uses a different transmission unless you have a rare 400 FMX block from 1973, which has a small block pattern and dual motor mounts.
You can use the 4V heads but only with an intake manifold spacer from Weiand or another brand, and a 4V intake made for the 351C. The 400 is better suited for a truck than a 351, in my opinion, because of the long stroke.
You may also get 302C Aussie quench heads and any 2V intake manifold made for the 351M/400. Better streetability especially for a heavy truck.
The 351C is the same as 351M/400 in design, but the latter has larger main bearing journals, and taller deck, meaning it also needs the wider intake.

save the cleveland for a car. pull the 351m and swap in a 460. its a direct swap and will bolt up to your current tranny. mounts can be found online as well.

Agreed. Having an F350 4x4, you want torque. The 351C 4v heads are high rpm hp heads, not low torque street heads. Building the 351M into a 400 is a good way to go, too.

stang, tbird, fairlane, etc...by nature the 351C is made to rev. It deserves a car for it to get up and get going to bring it into full flavor. Good choice.

Looks like the 351c will be stored for that future stang. Thanks for the input it will be a 400 or 460 swapped in the truck.
Well, if you go for the 400, there is no swapping needed, since you have a 351M already. All you need is the 400 guts to put into the 351M (crank and pistons) See TMI forum sponsor for all your 400 needs.
