Well, the problem with ethanol, like any alcohol based fuel, is that alcohol is much less volatile than gasoline. I believe it takes around twice as much alcohol to equal the power potential of gasoline. Hence, lower mileage, more fuel used.

There is around a 15% fuel mileage drop when running E85 if you have an aftermarket tune of conversion.

Lead Head is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.Lead Head is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
Ethanol fuels have an "octane" raiting off 100+ last I checked. The problem is that to harness the power it has, you need those higher compression ratios, but since you need regular fuel to fall back on, you just can't have high compression.

I'd try E85 in my car if they sold it around here.

the very small oil company that has been in my family for three generations now. only problem is that there are so many fricken regulations and permits you need to buy an an old abandoned well that you cant make any money, and the the glorious state of Michigan comes in and plugs the orphan well with tax payers money so no one gets it and the price of oil keeps going up.

Well I did some more reading and they were talking around a 17:1 compression to get E85's potential. So basically all you have to do is put spark plugs on your diesel lol. I do have an old chevy 350 diesel that can mix and match with the 350 gasser... lol

Still averaging $3.35 in MI. Many stations especially the ones that are conveniently located near the freeway are closer to $3.50.

We have one station (Valero) that is $3.10, but most others are $3.19-3.29 around the corner.
Since purchasing a diesel I have been amazed at the range in pricing from stationc across the street from each other. I have seen up to a .30 range.

im about to piss alot of you guys off so here goes
first off, why to you believe the government propaganda about foreign oil being the bad guy
why do you hate chavez, the us gov tried to have him assanniated a few years ago and the people run off the cia with their tail between their legs
the guy was elected by the people, you know. whats wrong with that
when do they ever elect a king or sultan or shah or mullah
he has offered free heating oil to the people in the northeast but the gov put a stop to it and at the same time the gov cut subsidies for the poor
and then we raise hell about putting taxes on fuel of .50 or a dollar but we dont do or say crap about a us oil company makeing unheard of profits in history
btw, there used to be a tax called the "windfall profits tax"
if the oil companies were ripping us off like they are now doing the gov would get most if not all of it so there was no incentive to make unjust profits
another thing, how come the oil companies were "invited to congress" and not "sworn in" to explain why the price of fuel was so high?
why wont the dick cheney tell who was at his private, illegal, energy meeting when they first got into office
remember the fiasco in california some years ago, got a democratic governor kicked out of office and it was the repugnants that were at the root of this energy bs
bet you the price will start comeing down at election time, it usually does.
and if the dems drag the oil scumbags in to congress and make them "swear in" the price will drop some more.
cant say that will happen though because the dems are almost as corrupt as the repugnants
anyway, fire away, and tell me to move away or some other ignorant stuff just because you are blinded by this notion that the us gov is so great
it is the us, united sates, that is great, not the the us gov
have a great day and think about it

Honestly I do not even want to respond to your rant, but the problem is that some may actually believe you. Lets just assume that you are right about chavez. Do you recall his rants about how he hates the US and supports Al Qaeda's stance. This is a very frigtening concept to me. I would encourage you to broaden you reading beyond the internet, preferably something peer reviewed not cooked up. I hope you can truely broaden your perspective in the future. This is not really the place to talk about this stuff anyway. Thanks for your time.
