stupid engine light

ok i am tired of my engine light coming on. it is showing bank1 and 2 are lean could that be the pcv valve or the fuel filter seeing i haven't changed them and the truck has 95000 miles on it. or can someone lead me in the right direction.

what year is your truck? if it has the plastic upper intake the gaskets are known to leak vacumn causing these codes. However the first thing i would do is clean the mass air sensor and change the fuel filter. you will have ti disassemble the air filter housing to clean the sensor. spray it out with carb clean but dont touch the two little wires they are very sensitive.

hope this helps

Exclamation

Check the hose/hoses at your pcv valve for holes or cracks. Also, follow the hose from the pcv valve to the 90* rubber boot under the throttle body neck of the upper intake. It usually gets a hole in it and causes the codes you are getting.

No but you have to hold your tounge in the left back corner of your mouth. Seriously, Thay are a tough one. I talked to myself for a while before I got mine off. First you have to have a fuel line coupler tool. After you get the fuel lines off, a wonder bar works pretty good for getting it out of the bracket. Back to the fuel line. Put the correct size tool on the fuel filter tube and push the tool and the fuel coupler toward each other. Then slide the tool and the coupler away from the filter at the same time. Some people spray the coupling with WD-40 first. After you get the first line figure off the second comes off much easier. Keep your trouble light or anything else that might ignite the fuel away from your work area. Your going to spill some fuel.
Good luck,
Chris

I had that same problem with my 2001. I took it into a dealer and the mechanic told me that it was a "Cold Start" problem. he told me that as the engine warms up the problem goes away, but resetting the code is wont work because the next time it is cold the check engine light would come back on. He replaced a series of bolts and gaskets along the air intake manifold. He said that the factory gaskets leak when you first crank up causing lean codes. the only other thing that ever has caused a lean bank was a bad plug wire. hope this helps, but try checking the air intake manifold bolts and gaskets. also you can get the tool for the fuel filter for a few dollars at the auto parts store. inexpensive and worth every penny

i just replaced the fuel filter and the light is back on. here is what all started it. one day it was cold outside and i was loading up my truck as it was running to warm the inside cab. well the truck started to act like it was going to die then came back and did it again. unhooked the batt. worked good since it was warm out. now it is cold again and it is doing it again. need help not sure what to check next.

I'm going to have to set back and watch the outcome of this one. There is going to be something to learn. I hope you find the answer and let us know what it is.

I do no know what the mechanic sprayed around the air intake, but it was an airesol can. He sprayed it all around the intake manifold and when he did it would choke out the engine to the point it would almost die. again I do no know what else it could be. at this point it may be wise to go get a diagnostic done to see what the problem is, and then decide if you are going to fix it or have it done. good luck either way

your problem is the lower intake gaskets its a known problem for the 4.2
youll need to change the six small gaskets the one big gasket and all the bolts
taking off the intake is a real pain especially the back bolts
just had to do that on my 04 heritage stx
