what about in 20 years when them 100 wires that go to all them sensors start corroding, or get knicked.. wow talk about computer errors.. good luck finding that problem.. see back in teh day with the 80-s and older pretty much the truck could sit 10, 20, 30 years and you could go out in the field with a can of gas and a battery and most the time fire it up.. try that with a new truck.. the tolerances are to tight, you cant let gas turn into dust in one of them! also the new engines are designed to run so much hotter to meet emissions that its very hard on engines.

You realy think it will take 20 years??
At any rate I think a person has best horde the pre-96 Fords now. Once the supply is depleted it will be the end of the car restoration hobby.
Compare to to similar trims levels of other brands I'd bet that the end do sell a surprisely high percent. Which is exactly Ford's problem.
Does having leather seats make a truck less capable? What about a nav system? (makes finding a job site very easy) Or huge pockets in the doors for tools? Does having a brake controller make it less capable, or more? What about extra 12v sockets for tools and accessories -- more or less capable? Fold up rear seats... more or less capable? A nice radio that sounds great... does that make the truck less capable? Power windows -- does that reduce its capabilities?

I'm not argueing that. I'm simply saying that until Ford offers to meet the "base" consumer they will continue to fall.
They are meeting the base consumer and you aren't it. The base consumer is buying vehicles across the vehicle line. Ford's troubles have more to do with gas prices, a poor 6.0L diesel launch, Explorer rollover problems and Jack Nassar than vehicle options and choices. Ford targets options and choices to where the market is.

They are now 3rd in the US at last check. I'm going look further nto what I already know. That is how many Trucks end up in fleets vs. how many are owner operated. Fleet buyers are looking to pinch as many pennie as they can.
Ford is producing exactly the truck its customers are demanding, and fleet buyers have not been demanding manual transmissions in great numbers for light duty pickups. Most of the huge fleet buyers (Southern Company, for example is one of the larger ones) are buying 4.6 V8s.

So now your saying I'm jelous simply because I don't like electronics.
That is not what I said at all.

BTW the USB port on the new Fords was the last straw. Next truck will be a Dodge.
You think buying a 92 (or whatever) Dodge is going to make any difference to Ford or Dodge?
Besides, the Dodge has MP3, satellite radio, DVD, gps, Bluetooth wireless and the 2009 has USB ports!

Like I said many times before. In 10 years we'll see how many of those trucks are still on the road. If the high end Caddies from the early 90's have anything to say about "features." then it is realy looking bad for Ford.
The longevity numbers are already proven the modular based trucks to be good trucks.

They don't need anyone's approval. But they do need their money and there's only one way to get it... Approval.
Yup... approval from people who buy new trucks.

You know Ken it's my expeirence from your posts that the new trucks could do no wrong and everything old is obsolete and therefore bad. Feel free to correct me.
Let's see...
I've owned both 67 and a 75. Rebuilt the engine in the 67. Took out the entire brake system, lines and all, and replaced it while upgrading to disc brakes. Redid the interior. Swapped out the 2bbl carb for a 4bbl with a medium riser manifold. Purchased all the parts to finish the restore (new tailgate, bumpers, etc.)... then a 25,000 lb. construction dumpster was dragged over it not that long ago, putting an end to its life. It was a great truck --- but it couldn't possibly haul and tow what the new trucks do, nor handle as well, drive as safely, etc. I used it for everything from driving to work, to hauling loads. I've been looking for a great condition 1966 F100 to restore for quite some time (because it has the 10th anniversary grill commemoration the 1956 F100 and it has an i-beam suspension for easy conversion to disc brakes), or even better, if I can find a good 56 (but they are very hard to come by).
I love old Ford trucks... its why I started Ford-trucks.com. They are great for tinkering with, restoring, utilitarian use, etc. But I don't for 1 minute fool myself about the ever increasing capabilities of each new generation of Ford trucks.

WTH is wrong with USB Ports? I think that is pretty damn awesome! I put a radio in my Year 95 truck that has a usb plug in and i think thats the best feature about my truck! Go ahead buy the dodge, simply because the ford has a USB port. Pretty petty.... Geez O Petes this thread got waaaaayyyyy off topic, as it always does, im surprised the Tundra hasent been mentioned yet!
There's a difference between old... and crusty. Some people embrace old... yet do not fear or reject technology. Others... reject what they don't or won't understand. People like that said the same thing about Ford discontinuing the Model-T, how Ford would never make anything better. One newspaper had an account of a man buying 9 of them while they were still available. People who owned a horse and buggy said the same thing about cars taking over. Nothing wrong with technology improvements.

i think both Toby and Mike Rowe are perfect spokesmen for FoMoCo. They appeal to the base customer that Ford has had as loyal customers since forever. The hard working, middle american. redneck or not.
look, I like the new electronics as far as entertainment cd player and such.. , but when it comes to reliability.... i do not believe they are reliable.. water, corrosion, static, chaffed wires, and just about any other little thing can ruin the computers or throw the sensors off and cause them not to run or fail, ive seen quite a few electronic injected vehicles go through water holes offroad to be towed away later.
To bring back up allan jackson, Ive got family that sell Cadallacs down in Georgia, and he buys new cars from there and they addore him. If i ever get to go down there and visit and maby meet alan then il tell you how he really is. I wouldnt listen to any of the Employees of HIS resturant simply because Sure there might be some nice Bosses or owners out there, but who acually likes them? I hated all my bosses and il cuss them up and down all day lol. But thats them making money, if you get to know them then they might not be that bad. all seriousness aside... I bet im a better skier than him tho lmao

I've seen plenty of old non fuel injected trucks go through water holes and stop running.....starters burn up, alternators take a dump, distributor soaked, water or mud in the carb......I'd bet you that waterproofing on new trucks is a whole lot better than old trucks.....

I ain't paying money for something I'll never use. I don't even listen to the radio in a truck. Even when it did work. My attitude is if you keep your eyes on the road and eres on the truck you won't have any problems.
When someone says the last straw, it goes without saying that other things led up to it.

It adds unneeded weight, so yes.

By myself ? No, but as a group it means that they are selling less new vehicles. I almost bought a 05 Chevy, This was right when the 06 model year came out. Ended up spending the money on other things.

I'm coming to the conclusion that your either a troll...or ignorant about marketing a vehicle to the masses. a usb port probably costs about 10 cents....go look at the cost of electronics....its almost nothing. brake controllers and leather add extra weight? you do know that your coffee mug weighs less than a brake controller? I suppose since you don't listen to your radio....ford should offer trucks without them? And hold on....your old trucks radio broke? What does that say about old trucks quality?

They do offer the SDs with a radio delete option. The radio in mine quit working because some young punk wasn't happy with the factory so he hacked it to make a aftermarket fit. In the process he F**** the wire harness so bad an OEM won't even work anymore. Appearently fullsize trucks are not exempt from the law of physics that states a radio make it run better.
A pound here, a pound there.....
As the saying goes... Paint don't make them run. I add to this that the entertainment will come in handy when waiting for the wrecker.
