55 f-100 289/c4 trans mount trouble
Since the Chevy was about to sling a rod. I got a 289/C4 combo to install. I have some room to play with on the tubular moor mount bracket, but the tubular trans mount bracket seems to want to go right where the master cylinder mounts to the frame. Any help would be appreciated....

I had a similar problem with my c-6, I bought a dropped tubular crossmember from a vendor, (can't remember off hand which one)and mounted it to the bottom of my frame rails. I had to use a 1 1/2"spacer between the crossmember and tranny mount to lift the tail shaft to the proper height. This gave me clearance for master cyl.

I'm not sure where the mounts came from. They were on the truck when we bought it, with a 350 and 200-4r installed. They look pretty much like the ones that mid-fifty sells. I even ordered a new engine mount, but sent it back when I found the existing one fit the 289.
I have the engine/trans sitting in the truck bolted to the engine mount and the trans pan sitting on a block of wood on the origianl? trans mount. On this set up the fan was about 1/2 inch from the radiator. And I took the drive shaft from the chevy set up and put a mustang front yoke on it.
I was able to get the front yoke in the tail shaft and the the back end bolted up to the diff. But the engine and trans obviously need to move back some for the yoke to fit right and for front end clearance. I unbolted the engine mount from the frame and supported the trans with a floor jack and moved the whole thing back. It looks pretty good now. Maybe could go back 1/2 to 3/4 inch more for the yoke to fit right. And it seems do-able, after I take the mustang shorty stock headers off. The left one is up againt the steering box. I'm hoping the long tube headers will now fit, since I have moved everything back...
The trans mount was still about 9-12 inches forward from the trans crossmember mount from the chevy setup. So I though it would be easy enough to unbolt it and move it forward on the frame rail.
Thats were the trouble lies. I still need approx. 6-8 inches of forward movement on the trans crossmember mount, but the box around where the master cylinder goes, is in the way.....
I haven't even got to the height of the mount yet, but it seemd that would be an easy fix w/spacers
Right now everything is movable, but I wanted to see if theres a mount that takes this prob into consideration, or another method before we make any more holes in the 50+ year old frame. I figure it's made it this far, the less drilling or cutting anyone does on it the better.

I took a few pictures of my recent install as its a 302/C4. You can see how far back my engine is mounted and where my tran mount bolts under the brake pedal mounting box. You can also see the 2" spacer I had to use on the tran mount. I don't have a master cylinder yet but plan to use a power brake booster and think I'll have plenty of room. I'm running a 1/2" offset to the passenger side.

Thanks for the help. I got distracted with some other stuff. I will try to get some pics, but the box around the master cylinder appears to be laid out a little differently. Mine bolts to the bottom of the frame rail and extends from the top of the rail to down below it. Thats why I can't just slide the trans crossmember under it. I may have to do some cutting after all...
