Gas Gauge repair or replacement

Gas Gauge repair or replacement
Pretty sure I fried my gas Gauge this weekend. I have the plastic sweep style speedo. I was replacing some bulbs and the flasher, and removed the wires to the gas gauge to let the gauge pull out more from the dash. When I put these wires back on, I put the red wire on the left threaded post, and the other wire (can't recall the color) on the back of the threaded rod for the alt light instead of the gas gauge. When I turned the switch on I got a sizzle and some smoke. Everything seems to work but the gas gauge - which had worked fine before.
I can hope I burnt up the wire, but it is probably the gas gauge.
Is there an economical way to repair the gauge, or do I need to find a good used one or a pricey NOS gauge?

Yep,, sounds like its sizzled.... But it can be checked. Check regulated power from the regulator and if its there attach it to the correct post and ground out the guage it should move if not its toast.
The gas guage is not a real expensive NOS part I may have a spare CC bezel unit. I will check later tonight send me a PM.

Do you have a part # for the 65-66 sweep speedo fuel gauge?

A or B = the B is a Ford updated part number. Either one works.
