sticky lifter???

I have a 97 f250 light duty with a 5.4 valvoline full synthetic....my truck has been ticking slightly for the past couple weeks....woke up this morning started my truck and ticking was very loud....so I revved up to about 1500 still ticked revved to 3000 and ticking went away instantly....and it is hardly noticeable anymore.....I know probably wasnt the best idea to rev a little with this kind of problem but had a jeep and did the same exact thing so figured i would try.....any feedback about this problem would be appreciated ...thank you in advance

Welcome to the forum.

Could have been a sticking lash adjuster or a loose plug. I would check the spark plugs just to be safe.

The ticking is from a few causes. The first is from no oil pressure at startup. What oil filter are you using and weight of oil? The second could be broken manifold studs.

Make sure your oil filter is one that has a check valve in it. Using a filter without one on a 5.4L will cause a tick at startup.
