Tail lights? Need Opinions

I have always been partial to the shield style also. I just didn't like any of the brackets I saw or that the wires were always left hanging out.

Take your bumper to a lazer cutter or to a waterjet cutter with a pattern of a shield or your choice of any shape and have it cut. Then you can put in a can with lighting (LED ??) and put on a lens flush to the metal. There are a number of lighting suppliers in the mags like Rod and Custom and Custom rodder. I see that Street Rodder has a lot of ads too. There seems to be no limit these days. If you want a fast easy and complete system then there is the 89.00 set from billet specialties in rectangle or oval. 1 hour work per side. I made templates in different shapes and sizes, painted red with a silver border and then put them on the truck with magnets and looked at them for a few days, changed them, repositioned them etc until I found the right size, shape and location for them and ordered them. You could also look at some of the repro old car stuff to mount in the fenders. I like Bobby's from Rio Rancho. Your truck will tell you what it wants if you can put it on paper or do the ( temp) templates.

Brian,
That looks like the same pan I started with. I added a little to the top to close up the gap to the bottom of the tailgate and then frenched in 1/2 of a '68 Firebird tail light on each side. With all of the vertical lines making it look tall and skinny, I was trying to add something horizontal to make it look shorter and wider. I bought a new smooth tailgate that I hope helps in this area also, but no pics yet. Here's one from my gallery.
This was the original attempt. I got rear ended and have rebuilt most of it, but not quite done yet.
One idea for you with the round exhaust tips under the pan, it might look good with round tail lights on the brackets to the side.
Good Luck!

Thx guys, My thoughts were of going with a simple round light on each side where the shields would be. Is that what the 37 Ford sedan lamps are like??? Now that I've seen Randy Jacks I like the idea of a round light with a scaled down to match mount like he did. I've also always liked blue dots also. Can anyone narrow down a round light that would generally match the period of the truck? I don't have a rear bumper and don't know if I'll use one so that's out for right now. I'm not a fan of lights mounted in or on the rear fenders either. Also thought about the round lights in the rear of the bed rolls for 3rd brake lights, anyone done that?

Look on this page for the following FTE sponsors, most will carry the brackets and the lamps. Free online catalogs, or you can contact them for free printed catalogs.
BLUE OVAL TRUCK PARTS / MAR-K / NATIONAL PARTS DEPOT / MAC'S ANTIQUE AUTO PARTS / AUTO-KRAFTERS.

Wayne, there you go again posting the droolbait for me to salivate. Anyway, your set up is like one that Bobco put on a show winner called "Sub Par" and was a highlight of the build. Sub Par is yellow with purple flames on the front. Shields on brackets should all be so sanitary IMO. Droooooooooooooooooooool........There I go lickin' my chops.
