Oil Change + Tire Rotation Price.

My gal has a 2004 V6 Escape. She braught it to the dealer today for oil change and tire rotation.

$60.11

Can you believe that.

Thanks Ford. Good way to show appreciation to loyal customers.

Morons.

Dosen't seem unreasonable for a dealer. Just checked a local dealers prices online, oil change is 30.00, rotation is 22.00, plus add in taxes and shop fee's.

You get what ya pay for, I'd hope they used MotorCraft oil and filter.

Cheapo 10-20 dollar oil change places around here use recycled bulk oil, and whatever filter they get for 10 cents apiece.

I prefer to do my own work, its cheaper and at least I know it was done right.

I do al my own work. Just its January. Gonna get 1 1/2 feet of snow tonight so its hard to spend time outside to do it.

Plus with inipendent suspension on the Escape it is hard to get all four wheels off the ground using jack stands.

I agree with the others, not surprising from a dealer. A "reasonable" price would have been closer to $40 IMO. But dealers do not do "reasonable" for service.

How is it that...

...some car and truck dealers can offer lifetime oil changes and tire rotation and they don't seem to be failing at a higher rate than those who charge for those services?

That's because they get it, they understand the principle of customer service...they've figured out that this small gesture (what's it cost 'em really, $10-15 plus the time?) keeps the customer coming back, generates good will, and then if they do find something wrong, there's a greater likelyhood the customer will have the work done there. And when treated right by a dealer, a customer is not as likely to use price as the only consideration when making the next deal or recommending "their dealer" to someone else. The kind of advertising "bought" with this approach is priceless.

I know this all sounds old fashioned, but when practiced properly, it works.

The price seems reasonable to me. Mechanics have to make a living too.

Except the mechanic does not make s**t off doing an oil change or tire rotation. The dealer pockets the majority.

My problem with it is she gets sent book of service coupons for this dealer. In there was a coupon for a oil, lube, filter, and rotation for $39.99. The fine print says up to 5 qts oil plus labor. So they charge 40$ for 5 quarts of oil? Her escape takes six quarts and she got charged $3 for the extra quart. The rest was labor. In Massachusetts is is illegal for shops to charge to dispose of waste oil.

That was my point......$60.11 is a joke.

For a dealership it sounds about right, plus I know where I work at, we just received notice from our oil distributor that prices were going to be going up and that the boss said he's going to have to unfortunately make an adjustment for it. Normally I'd say $40-$45 is probably about going rate to get good service and it only pays .3 - .5 to the tech performing it.

When I sold cars for a local dealership, every so many customers we would charge and extra $320 or so telling them it was for the predelivery detailing or some other mumbo jumbo and give them a coupon book like that if they howled too loud. The $320 wasnt even for any detail service it was just to nickel and dime.

Like the others have said it doesn't sound to bad for the dealer,I just had my tires rotated and balanced on my bronco at a small shop on the corner and it was $29.99 plus tax I think if I took it to my dealer you could add $20.00 to it and they probably would have messed it up.

You are in MA, a state with high taxes and lots of regulations like here. I think that is not an unreasonable cost for those services today. $3 for an extra quart? Not bad. Go into a regular auto parts store and price a quart of 5W-20 synthetic blend.
