Mother has cancer
My mother called last night. She tested positive for Breast cancer. So she will be going for a mascetomy. She sees her doctor on Tuesday to discuss what is going to happen next. My sister lives near here up by Nipawin.
The sad part is I don't know what to really say to her to comfort her. I just listened. I know she is scared.

Hope everything goes well. Like mentioned before, its one of the cancers that they seem to have a it of a handle on and can usually get it all!!
As for your original question about what to say to comfort her - I think just be as supportive as you can be - everyone has the exact same struggle about what to say when something like this comes along in their lives. It will be the thing that displaces almost everything else from the mind of the person who is sick as well as the minds of anyone close to the person. Sometimes just doing somethng that your Mom enjoys doing gives that temporary break from the stress! Hope it works out well for her!!!

I still got to contact the grandkids, My daughters about her. Shes the last grandparent they have. My dad passed away before they were born. The ex's side her dad passed away from lung cancer and her mother died of emphazema in the lungs last year. All the above were heavy smokers.
My mother did not smoke. So it will be a bit hard on them. I know one daughter will worry like heck about it and hit her a bit harder for she likes to try and be involved with family.

Boy sorry to here that. I know off several people aroud here that have had it an made a fullrecovery. You should try an find a support group for your mother. If she talk to people that went through this that really helps. Being alone can be scary. She needs somebody she can console in an somebody that has experienced what she has. I just wonder what causes all this. My grandmother who lived to be 98 never had it but a sister off hers got it when she was 50. She made a full recovery though an lived to be 88.

Very sorry to hear about your mother,,, Is she going to have to have Chemo tratments?? If so, when her hair falls out, try to get everyone to shave their heads in support of her!!! We did that for my Grandmother, and it was nice to see her smile!! She felt so unlike a woman without her "girl" parts and losing her hair was the last straw. It was just a little thing I could do so she didn't feel so all alone,,,
