I up-gaded my mirrors, from teh small paddle like mirrors to the trailering ones that extent out. bought them on E-bay and since I already had power to move the mirror I wanted Heated. so I had to run and extra wire from the passagner side to a switch, that both were tied to. couldn't find a cool timmer switch so I just went with an LED one that is bright so I know when there on or left on. pretty easy. just have to tap into power. got teh switch from Radio shack and it sits right by all the window switches on my door. there is a link some where I think its "Eurekaboy" or some thing of that nature. good luck

I added the heated extending towing outside signal and running light mirrors to mine last year. Got a set of them from ma well known "auction" site. Had to run wires to hook everything up, but it was worth it. My truck is a 1999 also. I also upgraded to the 2004 headlamps and turnsignals. Next will be changing the body molding to RED. I was going to post a pic, but I don't see any attachment keys. Oh well, I'm sure you've seen them before

Did those bolt right in or did you have to make adjustments/remove metal to make them fit. Thanks

They bolted right up, no mods at all.

What is the quality like with the mirrors from those auction sites? I've heard they rattle more than the stock tow mirrors from Ford. Also, does anyone know how the heat is turned on/off in the trucks that had this option in the mirrors?

I believe the mirrors are on all the time from the factory. I swapped out my OEM tow mirrors to heated versions from an Excursion and just wired them hot all the time. I guess one of these days I'll get a defrost switch and rewire.

I bought OEM Ford take-off mirrors. Paid $235.00 for both including shipping. They were used, but in great shape. Good luck
