Red face toolbox on truck

I bought an aluminium toolbox for my truck last year and about 6 months it started to discolor on the top, it was small now it's getting bigger, it's like a yellowish color. I've tried polish, compound even miruate acid and nothing helps it. Anyone got any ideas on how to polish it back up? Also I have a 90 f150 and the tailgate has some type of metal not real sure what it is but it is really dull and has like water streaks in it, it's been like that since I bought it, anything I can do for that?

Thanks for the help.

There must be the reason that people are painting their boxes black...

I just got a new box at Home Depot for $125.00. What do you suppose the chances are that it will look like chrome in another year? Me too. So, when it uglies up, I'll paint it the truck body color. Same for the rail caps.
