HP is a derived number, you don't measure HP, you measure torque at various RPMs.
Then: HP=(Torque (lb-ft)xRPM)/5252
So, measure torque at a specific RPM on a brake (dynomometer), and calculate HP. So, you can derive HP at any RPM you choose, and because of the RPM multiplier, peak torque is always at a lower RPM that peak HP.

What can I say, I like American V-8's!
Yea that would be sweet if they made that 5.4 have more ponies, But what about gas milage on the "Improved 5.4"? Are they going to go with MSD, and twin Plugs per cylinder?
ford? they can't design one plug per cylinder, you want 2? yeeesh!

Dont flame me over this, but it would be a higher mpg, because they are running it up the rpm ladder to get to the hp ratiing. If it were the same rpm's, I for one am taking a guess that the specific output will be lower. And the EPA mpg will be higher... Just a guess.
I bet you can't put a full size 4 wheeler in the bed with those bed rail things..look how wide they are. More plastic, cheaper parts, higher price. I don't understand that at all. The big three have killed the truck.

I love the new dodge. I have only owned ford vehicles ever since I started driving 14 years ago. The dodge styling has always been more cutting edge and I love it. When was the last time ford came out with something different? Remember the plymouth prowler? What a car, and with the new challenger on the way and the chargers and 300C, and the viper Dodge has got some good roots for design and power. Granted I hate chevy and all gm cars, look at what their design team has given us. The solstice, the new camaro (that is a nice looking car-see what production looks like), the new firebird looks good to. chevy has vehicles that have sharp lines and that seems to appeal to todays market. Ford needs to get away from trying to make all the vehicles look the same. Be bold, be different. Have you ever noticed that the ford five hundred-new taurus looks just like a VW passat? Don't be afaid FORD....take hints from everyone else---Be daring. It would be hard to own anything else, but if I was in the market for a brand new 1/2 ton truck I would probably buy an 08 F150 or the 09 Dodge. But you can all see I just bought an 08 F350 diesel and I love it.

Check out my gallery!!! 2008 F350 XLT CC Just drove it home!
The 09 f150 has 3 engines available.
4.6 2valve v8 - 248hp@4750 and 294lbft@ 4000 rpm
4.6 3valve v8 - 290hp@4750 and 317 lbft@ 4000 rpm
5.4 3valve v8 - 310hp@5500 and 375 lbft@ 3750 rpm
the 4.2 six has been dropped got this info off motortrend
This is the problem with gasoline motors, all the torgue is made over 3500 RPM. I saw a torque curve for the new Cummins V6 & V8 that will be out in '10, they made max torque around 1750 RPM!!! That's exactly where you need it in a truck.
Personally I think the new ram has a much nicer look to it that the new f150. It has a real tough & sporty looking front end. I really like the forward sloping grill. I would be interested to see how it handles having the 4 link coil sprung rear end. 380 horses, 400+ lb/ft of torque! Whats not to be excited about? Hopefully Chrysler quality control has gone up though, previous rams had very poor fit & finish and bad trannys to boot. Ill be taking a test drive in one when they come out on the lot.
Also, the new f150, I was not impressed at all by fords design. Thought they would have came out with something more origonal rather than throing the 150 on the badwagon of making all their vehicles look the same.
Very interesting..SOHC diesel! Certainly a pretty large step over Dodge Cummin's current solid lifter pushrod engine in the 3/4 and 1 -tons.
What I find even more interesting is that both the V6 and V8 still make peak torque down low, but they both rev upto around 4000-4200 RPM. I bet a lot of power can be made with these engines.
yeah sure go ahead dodge drop in a engine that makes 370 and 400, it's a good thing they've got lifetime warranty cause the tranny gona need it.
The tranny issues Chrysler had are a thing of the past. They have since recovered from that downfall. They may have some failures nowadays, but nothing like it was back from 94-02. I'll bet some newer Chrysler vehicles will and do have tranny issues, but so do Ford and Chevy as well as others. Bottom line is that they're MUCH better than they used to be. It's unfortunate that so many people have the mentality that Chrylser's transmissions are junk in every vehicle up to the current build. It would be no different than saying something like "New Ford? It's gonna need that 5yr/100K rust warranty for sure!!" Or "5.4 V8? It'll need a 5 yr. warranty because the plugs and manifold bolts are gonna need it!!" I'm not directing this toward anybody in particular (despite the quote), but it seems too many people base judgement on what they hear, not what they see and experience. Show me a perfect vehicle and I'll show you something not too short of a miracle.

Dude, it's been how many years since the pinto? and people still think fords blow up if they get rear ended...
on another note, toyota leads the way with the number of recalls and how many people still swear by their reliability??

Haha, exactly. People just don't let things go. I've heard guys say "Brand X is junk, and I'll never buy one again." Then I reply, "When's the last time you had one from Brand X?" The guy will say "It was a 1976." Just proves my point that one bad experience or hearsay from other owners can taint a person's perception of a company and the company's product for a long time, which I think is unfortunate.

The 6.4L Powerstroke is SOHC with 4 valves per cylinder. That's nothing new.
