Question Temp Sensor

Alright for those that have heard my complaining about really bad fuel mileage, ICPs, and a possible stuck injector. I have made some progress with Coons help I decided that I couldnt afford a real scanner so I took it to the dealer. He did his test for me and found the only thing wrong was the temperature was reading at 123 C. The truck wasnt even warmed up yet, so he suggested the sensor is bad. My question is there is only one sensor so can it be bad, but my gauge still act normal? My gauge has never hit m in normal, so what could be going on. Does the PCM read the temp and send a signal to the gauge, but not real temp? Thanks

The only temp the PCM sees is the oil temp. I would guess that is what the shop saw was oil temp. There are two coolant temp sensors. One for the gauge and one for the engine temp light.

You need an oil temp sensor. The coolant temps sensors have no say in engine performance.

You know he did say that the sensor is making the truck run a little rich. I bet you are right. Makes since right?

Yes it does make sense. That is also the only temp sensor that he could hook a scanner up and see what it is reading.

PCM also reads AIT. But has no effect on motor tune.
Also check your coolant thermostat. Could be part of the problem.

Please let me know how it works out. My truck runs great when it is cool outside, but the low end (under 2000 rpms) runs almost like it is missing when the temp is high outside or the engine is really warmed up. I am thinking of replacing both sensors myself.

Thanks and good luck.

If the sensor was showing 130C .. off the top of my head that is about 255F I would think the truck would be running more lean than rich causing poor performance. No expert in this area though.

TJ .. didn't believe it but you are correct .. look it up and water temp has no say what so ever in engine performance.
