I was wondering if buying new veg/seed ect oil in bulk is maybe a cost efective way to make bio ? I live in vegas and there is a bioD company ( they sell mainly to the city and county ) here that has the market taken on picking up WVO.

I can not find a price on 100 to 500 gal lots of oil. Anyone have an idea on price.

It would be cost effective but I think you have to buy in 18 wheeler or rail car quantities. A couple of years ago I was looking for virgin vegetable oil and found a bunch of good sites. Unfortunately almost all of the postings were for 10,000 gallons and more.

Have you checked with smaller restaurants? Non-franchise mom/pop type businesses will be more likely to let you take their oil. Just remember that they pay to have someone pick it up because they NEED it to be picked up. Rendering or BioD companies have a vested interest in picking up every week. So if you commit to a small business to pick up every week make sure you pick up every week. I'm in no way trying to assault your character just want to let you know what's going through the business owners mind.

I'm curious, virgin soy on the open market is going for 3.80 to 4.00 a gallon, what is wrong with your oil. And can you handle rail cars?

 

nothing is wrong with the oil, its just that we buy 2 tankers (12000 gal) a week so we get a good price on it.. and what do you mean rail cars?

 

Rail cars as in 20,000 gallon railroad car loading capability. There was a rail car full of used oil from LA sitting in Memphis for a $1.91 a gallon a couple of months ago. When we didn't buy it, it was sent to cattle feed. Bloomberg this morning is saying soy oil is 54 cents a pound, which figures to $4.05 a gallon. So $2.00 a gallon is a hell of deal. Any way you could give me the name of your supplier so I could talk to them?
