I'm looking at an E350 with the 7.6, trailer tow, new brakes, tires, alternator. Everything mechanical is perfect. The body and interior are like new. Seems like an easy KBB.com
Van was a 12 pax E350 (not 15 pax) Old owner set it up with bench/bed and captain chairs only. New owner has installed a new bench with integrated child seat (really want those) in addition. SO......now it's driver - bench with car seats - captains chairs - bench with bed. A total of 10 pax.
It has power everything, CD, DVD, IR headphones, remote start, alarm, keyless entry.
Did I mention this thing is CLEAN and everything works.
I have no idea what to value this thing at. I know the guy is asking to much (sadly though this is exactly what I'm looking for after all I have 5 kids, with more on the way).
Info like what year, how many miles might be helpful; doubt we could give you a dead-nuts accurate price, but if you post what the guy is asking, it might register OK or not OK on my personal BS meter. Or someone else's.

Good luck with the family,
George
Ya I knew I over looked something.
1992 with 150500 miles.
He's asking 4800. Looking on NADA I get 3000. If I add for the extra equipment (DVD, headsets, carseats, ect..) I'm comfortable with 4000. But I may be way off, that's why I'm looking for help. The trouble is, this is exactly what I'm looking for; even at 4800
Getting a solid used vehicle that precisely meets one's needs is really a cool thing. With a vehicle this age, your major exposure will be big mechanical repairs (or the possibility of those repairs). Hell, a new van or truck would depreciate 5 grand in the first year....
I'd have no problem offering something like 4 grand for the van if it legitimately met my needs--maybe contingent on having a mechanical inspection, getting under it on a hoist, etc.
If you see this van working for you for the next 3-5 years, maybe, the cost up front is a drop in the bucket--ain't much depreciation there, really. The real costs will be repairs and maintenance, as well as a fairly significant amount of gas.
A $2k rebuilt transmission changes the picture. Depending on how much work you can do yourself, even something like brakes on all four corners can cost a pretty penny. I'm in Detroit, and we lose a lot of old vehicles to body rust--anything that old would be likely on its way to some major cancer somewhere. If you're down south, rust ain't a problem in most cases.
I'm here in Columbus, rust can be an issue. Of course this van has those stupid fiberglass running boards that trap water around the wheel wells. Right now only one well shows any rust. I'm thinking of pulling off those running boards and replacing them with diamond plate; I'd fix the cancer then too, before it got worse.
The engine/trani with 150500 miles worries me a bit. How good of an engine is that anyway (7.5L gas). I can fix everything else myself, but the idea of dropping the trany or pulling the engine myself (on a van) is not my idea of fun so.......something to consider.
This would be my 3rd Econoline, so no real fear there, but asking to let my mechanic look at it is a good idea. The guy had no qualms about letting me drive for a few hours the other day, seems like a straight shooter, but who knows.
Thanks for you help.
In my experience, unless you cut out large pieces of the body and replace the, once there is a rust problem on a vehicle, it's gonna just get worse. That might be my biggest problem with this van.
No idea on the engine/trans; I've had good experiences with the 300 inch six, a couple 302's, and my current E150 4.6, but have not had experience with the 460. I'm assuming it would run for a good long time if it's healthy, but am pretty certain that it will suck a bunch of gas. 10 mpg for 10,000 miles per year is a thousand gallons of gas. Sure there isn't any kind of minivan that would fit your family, or maybe a slightly newer E150 with a 4.6? (My 4.6 is the most economical full-size van motor I've ever known of--and this is my fourth full-size van over the last 21 years or so.)
But the rust might well be a deal-killer for me; I've had a few vehicles over the years that just had a "little" rust when I bought them, and they all just got worse over time despite some attempts of mine to "fix" the rust.
been watching this discussion for a couple days
guess its time add my 2 cents
way too much money
cd's, dvd's and such are only worth a couple hundred bucks at most
these are used electronics
seats can be picked up cheaply at a u pull it
stick to the kbb
go to ebay a nd find what you want at a better price
one other place I like to go is www.govdeals.com
this is a private auction site but you deal
direct with the gov. entity that is selling the stuff
no middle man
by the way I only paid 3000.00 for my van
100,000 miles and a 15 pass.
very good deal. and they are out there
So there is little left for an idiot like me to say.
Except that...if ya want it, it fits your needs, you can afford it, and the seller comes down just a little to make you feel like he's serious about selling..
What's the use, the experts have spoken.
Oh, did I mention that even if you do find somthing "less costly", what's your time worth to go around finding all the stuff you want on it and then installing it, etc.
Maybe you're better off working a few more hours and giving the guy what he wants.
